Engine build by MG Autos inc drop in deal

Simon I gave my car hoping it needed a full rebuild as I'm the type to spend money on something that I'm planning to keep. I knew the costs before hand and was told by a few mates who have had high powered jap cars before that having full build is better than a half a build.

But at first I was just hoping a drop in would do. But then after a while I was hoping it would need a full build as in that way itl be a fresh engine. This engine has been messed about with before by the previous trader who used to look after it. It had loads of problems and MG autos sorted them out for me.

Other people have had the engine out treatment for a bent rod inspection???:shock:

I'm not a fan of drop ins, rod jobs, as I feel it's half a job and there's too many what ifs that can happen on inspection. I'm also not a fan of people being ripped off!

Not in my ownership. Was previous owner and the trader he used.

I doubt it was for bent rod. It could have been timing belt snap as it has an Evo 7 head on it. Bearing in mind I'm sure the big ends was noisy while I had it.

But I guess nothing better than a fresh rebuild

Simon I've been ripped of before whether it be parts or service etc but im not the type to take it easily lol. I would name and shame and move on.

That's all well and good but it all depend's on where you name and shame as certain post's by people against certain well known trader's get removed:whistling:

Well I guess you can't win then. Which isn't good people are entitled to feedback from traders so others can know. I'm sure TRL are well known and they have over 100+ pages long thread on MLR. So can't see why they would remove it.

How many tuners build their own engines out of interest.

Do some get other shops to do the work for them.

I have built truck engines and older type engines but would never dream of touching an evo engine or the like, these high performance engines seem to be a nightmare for tuners.

Yes ive built a few evo engines, along with C18DET, RB25 engines, but all for myself, the only trouble I had was when I did a "drop in". It was a evo 8 with 36k on it, engine bores just in when measured up before honing, after honing was right on the border, piston ring clearances were right on the limit and original main bearings had uneven wear which suggested possible mains alignment issues but I progressed with the drop in as at that time al was well on the running in, mapped up ok, then started to get issues with crankcase pressure, then blowing coolant out, removed head and checked the deck and it was out of spec, this is why im not a drop in fan, too much to go wrong.

That's why im glad im getting a full build inc dynamically balanced and blue printed.. and MG is doing the above what you said simon aswell as the sump and oil cooler with brand new items, so the list is long for whats getting done but will be done right and then I can keep it and enjoy it

Yep done a few 14 ltr,s but never had to touch the m11 i had.

The daf on the other hand nearly broke me, was in bits more than together.
