End of the road for E6 - Dreaded rot

With an abusive winter just passed I decided to treat the car to a full underseal and few other items. After stripping down the rear axle and getting the fuel tank off I've found a world of trouble which I'm sad to say but think it's the end of the road for this one. The rust was hidden well with underseal before I exposed what follows in the below pictures

I'm trying to come to terms with it and I'm wondering what to do, I've not got the time or funds to re-shell and to be honest wouldn't want to take on the task. I'm thinking about taking the hit and wondering what it's worth in the breakers market. The car has several other bad points which don't exactly help the situation either.

The cars up on the ramp at the minute and can't stay there for too long.

Clutch (tired)

Apexi AVC-R boost controller
Wheels aren't all that good
Recent f+r godspeed grooved disks, orange stuff pads

that's quite bad, (the rust) how much do you think the car owes you if you were to sell?

Unfortunately it happens to them all.
Best you can do is sell it or break it.
Only trouble with breaking is time and space. Believe me these cars cake up alot of space when they are in kit form. Also means alot of trips to post office with silly bits of trim for £5

I'd rather not say to be honest, more than I can afford and my pride more than anything!

I had it up on a ramp as soon as I brought it and noticed a few problems, I was in two minds about re-selling but decided stick with it and fix her up. (Bad decision)

I haven't got the time or space to break it up, it needs to go as one really as its on a friends ramp.

I think this car has broke me as well as my wallet, I almost just want to see the back of it now and not to be worrying about it.

Thing that puzzles me here is you find rot on your evo it goes to scrapyard but yet people with ford rs's repair them restore etc i know iv done them, people drag beetles,minis, rs's,campervans etc and totally rebuild so why not with a evo?

Trouble is Craig is with some of the power these evo's run you can not just simple weld patches on here and there,new section's have to be cut and welded in and this as you know become's very time consuming and people just get bored and bale out:arms:

Feel for you there mate, not going to be easy to sell in that condition, compared to what some of the bits are worth.

From what ive seen you could easily get that welded in a day, most of it looks like surface rust, if you cant get throught it with finger and thumb pressure then it is still strong. Find a mobile welder, maybe £200 for a days works, underseal it and it will be fine.

Edit: notice in a couple of your pics the panels are only spot welded together, some sheet steel cut and seam welded in place will make it even stronger than before

I hear what your saying pal but to buy repair panels or new sections and but weld them in time consuming etc but the point im making is bit of rot oh my evo needs scrapping wtf there evos they are repairable

very true but i wouldnt just cut a poxy patch and weld it on! Ma be thats ok for a micra but a 300bhp 4wd car.....:shock:

I wouldnt have any problem in cutting that out of my car and getting my bodyshop to pit a new one in or plate it and im not saying make it look like a patchwoek quilt, after all they are only welded together from new ill post some pics of worktom if i have time youll not be able to tell, if done right it will be bang on

Fingers crossed this can be saved,it's well known that freshly under sealed cars can but not always are done to hide rot

I get what your saying but to be honest I agree with Craig. There is no reason that with a bit of time and effort a good welder couldn't patch that and make it as strong if not stronger than before. Chances are most of the bits that actually need welding aren't structural anyway.
I would personally fix it if you don't have the time or space to break it (if that's what you wanted to do) if you've still not got the love back when it's fixed then sell it on fully working.

+1 it would be as strong if not stronger depending on sheet steel thickness and the ability of the welder

Isn't there a bloke with a white V on Mlr that bought a nice shiny car but underneath was full of holes. Would I be right in thinking he rebuilt it ?
Thread was kind of a warming to others to be careful what they buy.

After sleeping on it and reading some of your comments I'm going to get a mobile welder in to assess the damage and quote on the work. Maybe they can get me out of this hole!

I've found a few specialists, anyone recommend welder in the Oxfordshire/south area?

I have seen that white one and many more in this situation, that's why I jumped to conclusions I think. Regrettably I didn't do the research and found out what to look out for after buying the car.

I'll keep you posted how I get on.

Try a good body shop one that restores old classic cars, they will have a fabricator and will be able to make it like new if they are any good, if you said it was £500 its still way cheaper and will last longer than you have the car or reshelling it!!
