That one shot should be replaced with something else like a cleaning additive instead as it is clinically proven to have no noticeable benefit at all.

Millers Oils CFS 10w-60 Competition Fully Synthetic Engine Oil.

I'll ask one of the Millers chemists to have a look at this so we can have their view on the Ecomax as well.

I've spoken to Millers and I share their point of view - As the Ecomax contains an octane boost (or cetane if the diesel version),the Ecomax gives the car the potential to make more power. Can we have a look at the documentation that makes the Ecomax out to be rubbish?

It was not my intention to have a go at Millers, my comment was based on Octane Boosters in general.

As I stated before, I am not here to have a dig at Millers in any way.

Those who know me well, will no doubt testify to the fact that I only recommend Millers Oils as I believe they are number one.

My apologies if my wording of the original comment came over as "Millers Octane Booster is a rubbish product which has been proven" as that is not what I was aiming to get across.

This Millers Petrol Power Eco Max may well be a great product but I have given my view on all Octane Boosters in a generalised way and it was not my intention to make out that I was pointing my finger at this specific product.

There are other factors that I have taken into consideration on this subject which include disclaimers by manufacturers regarding Valve Seat issues (older models/higher mileage models) which do not add up in my opinion and are a little misdirecting in certain cases.

As for documented evidence:

I have included the following link which is one of many that I have come across over the years. It does not include Millers in the test but as it is the most recent, I feel that it is the best place to start from.

I suggest that you go for Millers CFS 10w60 or their 10w40 at the very least buddy.

In fact, the Millers 10w40 might be the best bet for you as your engine does not have to undergo the extreme temperatures that we have to put up with here in the UK

Hi

Fair enough. I haven't seen that Fifth Gear before and the results of using those additives. Something to consider though, we don't sell anything from any of those companies, although many places do. We usually know what products are worth stocking and what aren't. Fluoro packaging is usually a good signal to walk away.

Up until recently we only sold the Silkolene Pro Boost and the Redline fuel system cleaners as the Pro Boost is proven as the only truly clean burning octane boost and the Redline is a very popular fuel system cleaner.

The Millers Ecomax has the boost of the Pro Boost, but also the cleaning properties of the Redline, the only disadvantage is that it doesn't burn truly clean (you can see a small amount of yellowing on the plugs).

If a car needs an octane boost to run properly as a lot of Jap imports are mapped to run on 100RON oil (it gives a 3 point increase on standard 97 RON fuel),the Millers is a good option and will help the cars develop the maximum power they can.

We have come across plenty of rubbish octane boosts in the past that we wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I saw one test a while back where the plugs were bright orange after just a tank of fuel. No idea what sort of dodgy chemistry was used in making that, but even teh worst of the others only had the slightest yellowing after one tank.

10w-60 is too thick for an Evo. The thickest I'd ever recommend for an Evo is a 50 and that's only in a really heavily modded car. If your car is standard or close to, go for a 5w-40 so you get better cold start protection than with a 10w.
