After reading some evo info i Just bought my evo 6 and wondering if it has AYC, no light comes on the dash when ignition is on, but the car has abs. from what i have read the only ones without ayc also dont have abs

There is nothing unusual with the drive of the car (that i have noticed) although i am getting a smell of gearbox oil inside the car now and again??

The car will be getting a full service on my next days off (due to work i havent had chance to play with it properly yet :))

Im just hoping someone hasnt pulled the bulb out if it was on

Any quick visual ways to check if i have ayc?

Cheers

Correct, Ayc pump if fitted will be under the offside rear of the car on a VI

Sounds as though someone has taken the bulb out to hide a faulty pump issue

After looking under the car it seems like the tw*t has removed the bulb. If the pump is f**ked should it make a noise etc. I will need to sort this but dont know where to start. (Prob start by re-connecting the bulb). Is there sensors etc which tell the ayc what to do.

This probably explains the gearbox oil smell i get now and again.

Why do folk do this i would have rather him tell me the light was coming on

Bad times I agree, covering up probs only makes it worse. Yh start with re connecting and go from there. The difference it will make is no control over where the power is sent but will cause damage over time. I think its similar to open diff setup if I remember right

This is what you get if you don't do your research before buying an evo. If the pump is dead and consequently your diff, its going to be a £1000 bill.

Yeah i suppose it's my own fault although i did get a very good deal on it. 2 faults found so far (AYC and lash adjusters need cleaning) so not too bad lol.
Think i might take it off the road until i have done everything incase i damage it further

The car would have had AYC from the factory. If your AYC pump has failed then FQ Performance can refurbish it with a 12 month warranty for around £350 inc VAT. You can still drive the car while it's being repaired too, just block off the pipes that went to the pump while its off. Noisey tappets is not much of a problem to be honest, extremely common, just take them out and clean them or swap for 3mm items.

You won't damage the AYC if its not working, it just won't do anything to help you as you corner, you can keep driving it as-is with no ill-effect.
