Discs and Pads - What you recommend

OK - I guess I could have probably done a search but wtf some of you may have changed your minds

My Evo IX just gone in for it B-Spec service and before they even started after a quick inspection it was suggested that I need to think about new discs and pads soon

I am not looking for some state-of-the-art trackday expensive ones or some cheapo ones. I just want ones that are solid, reliable and can stand-up to some fast road without warping, rubbing or squealing!

Let me know what you folks are using and your thoughts (both front and rear).

I have done a little digging around.

The chaps servicing mine recommended (or shall I say stock) Cosworth StreetMaster Brake pads and looks like they have ferodo DS2500/3000's too.

He has brake discs for EVOs custom made (which sounded expensive to me!)

So far ive looked on tinternet at carbotech xp8's (not sure I need to stretch to 10s or 12s) but as for discs no idea? EBC/Nitrac? Must fit the standard brembo calipers.

Car is carrying a few mods probably at about stage1/stage1+ so I do want some good aftermarket ones at a decent price over the standard ones as they are prone to warping I am told!

So what you get and where do you recommend getting 'em from (online shops) would be most useful

I use EBC grooved discs with EBC yellow stuff pads all round (waits for the flaming to start lol)
I have done many track days and NEVER had fade...not once!! and I am running 450/430

On the road there is no noise at all and low dust. Bites from cold and have never let me down.

I will be giving the EBC blue stuff a try next.

XP8 are great if can handle the noise and the dust.
Project Mu HC+ are amazing but OMG the noise is bad.
PF discs are good so might be worth looking at them.

Forgot to mention, as some of you already have, I don't want them to be too noisy as need to be bareable as a daily drive as well as fast road / odd track day maybe.

rare these always get slatted! Nice to here from some one who's used them first hand and running nice power! Myself will prob try blue stuff next or maybe yellow now.

I think the problem people have with yellow stuff etc is the fact they run them on OEM discs which in turn get very hot and cause fade.

Ds2500 are a good pad but have been said to feel quite wooden. Mate on mine had them in his 500bhp Evo then swapped them for some XP8's and said the difference was unreal, so much more feel throughout the pedal and felt like they actually had some bite, this was with the bigger Alcon brake kit

I run 500bhp Evo daily and use the standard brembo callipers but with pf 2 piece dicsc and xp10's and I can put people's teeth in the dashboard when stamping on them at 130+ but as said the are noisy around town so better of with the xp8's really

so a well vented disc would be recommended with these pad's? Drilled groved etc . Sorry im useing rotor disc's front(in my Sig) std rear with jbc fast road and track from a store via ebay £100 front and rear. Work really well that with uprated line's and fluid

Drilled and grooved discs usually just crack all to UC as soon as then get warm so I'd normally avoid these types of discs unless your paying top money and the groves don't go right to the edge. I have dimpled discs and even they have some tiny heat fractures but then I have had them UC in hot when they were on my old Evo by stamping on the pedal at 150mph several times during a track session

I'm using standard discs and calipers still but have XP8s alround and that does the job for me..... that is with track abuse. The dust from the XP8s is easily manageable don't let that put you off, just make sure you keep on top of cleaning them and apply a good quality wax to your wheels. As for the noise...... yes that can be a pain, I don't tend to get it but I work away and when |I get home after the missis has been driving it the squeal is a total pain in the a.. But a few good hard thrashings sorts them out.
Once the discs do need replaced I will probably be going for the DBA discs with XP8s and sticking with the Brembos

I have the ndx pads on my fronts and all seems well, but I have dba discs all round on mine and they ain't cheap

I have tarox discs on front and normal brembo discs on the back, both with standard brembo pads,,

I too was wondering what pads to choose as i would like something with abit of extra bite,,

I'd say xp 8's for extra bite! Every time these get spoke about there's some one having to pull there face off the dash lol guess you get what you pay for!
