Mitsubishi Workshop Manuals just got hold of a full workshop manual and i will check all fluids first

after moving all the pipe work i can see the clutch forlk but it wil not sping to the right
to disengage the clutch.

and also i found a nastry crack will this be ok or do i need a new gearbox

hi mate thats never a good sign :O( see if you can look thro the inspection hole in the bottom of the box to get a idea whats going on ?

but it is looking like the box will have to come out and you need to work out what craked it :O( and maybe replace it if it cant be fixed .

i would replace fella there is a link to youtube in the tech section, under a sticky on engine removal that will give you a good idea on how to disengage

update on my clutch after 2 days got the gearbox out remember never done this before anyway i found this pile of scarp inside.

and the cover

so i need some idea on what cluch to get next and will i need to replace the flywheel
got a price on a stage one exedy clutch £350 what do you guys think

Looks like there was a bit of life left in the material. Have you launched the car at all? As that can goose them like that. I'd go for an Evo 7/8/9 flywheel and clutch. Theyre bigger than a 4's and you'll get a few more options If you're not going above 350bhp, stick with the standard 7/8/9 bit if you're going much higher, go for an organic. I had the larger standard clutch on both my old 6's and never had an issue

DONT get the Exedy, im presuming at £350 its the 'uprated' one in the pink boxes?? Do NOT use them! Just use the standard Exedy in the Grey box. And buy from a reputable trader as there are a LOT of fakes about!

they're rubbish and wear out quick, had probs with a couple so will never touch them again!

Really? I had one in my old car and I gave it alot of abuse and it was fine it was the cheapest clutch that could take some launches I could find and apart from it being very very harsh in traffic it would shake the whole car sometimes I thought it was good?

i guess it depends what you can class as a good clutch....one thats harsh and judders (as i often found with the 'uprated' ones) to me is not a good clutch. And also its life span. A standard mitsi clutch can run 380 bhp for 50,000+ miles no probs (without launching) and i found the uprated exedy to get nowhere near that, hence for me they are not a good option.

But I could buy 3 or maybe 4 for the price of a a higher class clutch I'm just saying for the money you pay for one they are good for launching if your on a budget If I had lots of money to spend on a clutch I would try twin plate

you can get an ACT for less than twice the price of that exedy, and it is FAR superior.

Just giving my experience of the clutches, i have done a few and i will always steer people away from the exedy in pink boxes and use the ones in grey box instead. cheaper and last better.

And with ref to launching, you may have been lucky and also good at launching, but the fact is ANY organic type clutch will have its life shortened if launched wrongly, no matter how much you pay for it. If you get it right, organics can be launched on, but its a fine line between getting it right and totally ruining your clutch!

and dont forget you need to pay for/do 3/4 clutch changes so the fact the clutch is cheap but may not last so well is totally false economy. Buy it right once!

very mixed opinions on what clutch is best i think i will look into ACT or a standard evo 8 one , cos i have to use as a daily driver
