Cylinder Failure

Why would a cylinder fail? Would this be human error or a mechanical fault?

I was driving home from work at 50 mph, When smoke started pooring out the back of my car. I pulled over asap and turned the car off. I lifted the bonnett and there was oil all over the engine and the exhaust. I sent it to the garage i bought it from as its under waranty and they said they are not repairing it due to them blaming me for the damage. They told me that the rocker cover breather pipe was forced off under pressure and that lead to oil leaking out and therefore caused the damage to the engine. I had the car checked by an insurance investigator and they told me that there is no pressure in the hose or rocker cover and this simply would not happen and is not my fault but is a mechanical one and that the garage are responsible for the damage. I sent the garage a copy of the report and they are still saying there not fixing it unless i can prove the car was faulty before i bought it. Hard one to prove but need any help possible in finding out as much info as possible of what i can do next. Thanx for any help you can give me

Well it seems lie its an open and shut case. Your insurance asessor, is he from the warranty company??
You need to by-pass those clowns at the garage and call the warranty company, do not tell them that you have taken the car back to the garage or what the clowns at the garage told you. I dont suppose they took the dip stick out and checked how much oil was still in the sump???

Tell the warranty company what the insurace asessor told you and fax them the report straight after the call. Make a note of the date and time and person that you have spoken to and then call them the same day in the afternoon and let them know that you are taing it to the dealer. Keep well away from the place you bought the car from. Warranty is valid at any dealer or registerd garage but you will have to pay an excess and I advise you to read the terms and conditions too as some warranty companies only give £500 parts and £50 per hour labour upto 16hrs in total.

Where about are you. I may know some reputable guys in your area????

The other way to deal with this is through the garage that sold you the car, but it will require a solicitor.

The insurance asessor was from an independant company advised to me by trading standards. I checked the dip stick when i stoped and it was just below half way, but i sat for over an hour waiting on a tow company coming and by the time they got there the guy checked it cos there was loads of oil under the car, and there was none left in it at that point, the car though was never started again after i stoped, i even got the police to help me push the car to a safe place. I live in Fife, Scotland. there are a few companys close to me but 2 of them are really good mates with the guy that i got the car from so im staying well clear. jsut trying to find out how much it will cost to get an engine report, but can they tell if it was wear and tear before i bought it or because of the lack of oil? throughout the whole escapade the engine light or oil light never came on at all, not untill the tow truck turned the ignition on to stop the steering lock coming on during winching.

Give the warranty company a call in the morning and take it from there. There is no way that to prove it to be human error, The oil breather pipe could have blown off due to high pressure, It is not unusual to hear of it.

You will win this no probs.

warrenty is a funny thing but i would not let the garage away without paying anything, if they wont pay the full bill try getting them to split it as there is more than likely something in the paperwork classing it as wear and tear

i would reckon you may have fried a ring how old is the car ? mileage ect

its been 18 months, hopefully he's fixed the problem
