COP / coil on plug kit for evo 5 6

Hi all, i have been looking into upgrades for my evo 5 and doing some reading and it looks like the most worth while upgrade at the moment for me would be a coil on plug kit as more power upgrades would mean either engine failure or having to do a rod job first. So... after reading ive found a couple of companies (spark tech and spoolinup) that do COP kits plug and play, and also DIY kits to do it yourself cheaply which i wouldnt mind giving a go to be fair, i work in laser cutting and fabs so could nock up a posh plate for the coils no problem but my only worry is... will it still be plug and plag and still work with the apexi power fc d-jetro MAFless setup??? I'd love to give this kit a go as reading about it, most people say this is the best mod they have done to their car and the whole car just feels better! plus it dont look half bad under the hood either :awesome:

Hi just fitted one to my 5 running around the 370bhp mark.

And well......

Can't really say I've noticed too much lol.

It's main job is to provide a more consistent spark and allow cars with higher power to keep there spark and not blow it out..... I think lol. So at my power I'm not going to be having issues with the standard stuff.

It will work absolutely fine, I don't believe they need mapping in but a map check/tweek would be advisable afterwards.

I suppose the only thing I noticed was the car was a bit better on petrol at the last track day but I could be imagining it.

Maybe people with higher power cars get this mystical difference. The main thing for me was evo-arms was selling his on eBay for a price that I thought was good, so I bought it.

What I'm getting at is it's not the best mod ever but it's a good way of running the car so a worth while mod. Especially if you plan on big power at some point. Also if you can knock one up on the cheap then why not

Don't think he has the plugs though, Simon@NTS fitted mine with OEM plugs and map tweeted mine.

Make one is the cheapest option and isn't to expensive either, you can run a bigger plug gap once you have cop so if it was mapped you might gain something ?
I'd be interested in a nice ally laser cut plate if you could make more than one ?

I think the only gain is if you are having issues of losing the spark under much higher boost levels.

On my power I think it's an over kill mod that essentially I don't really need. But saw one at the right time so thought why not chuck one on

Well if anyone has a plate they can send... or do a detailed drawing with dimensions etc I could nock one up one for myself then one extra no problem. ok so even if I don't feel much difference with the kit, like you say at least its done for when I do hunt for more power I suppose which I suppose is inevitable haha. Be interested to see if it makes the idle any smoother as mine is a little lumpy sometimes but I have put that down to the pfc d-jetro setup and the cams on it... who knows. But anyway its something to get stuck into over the next few weeks which keeps me out of the way of my heavily pregnant and grumpy missus who also insists the evo is not a practical family car lol!!

Get one made up, it's not a bad mod at all it will only give gains... Will you feel those gains?...... Maybe/probably not

Word of advise, the wiring plugs are a nightmare to get hold of. You can get them new from America of all places but no where else!

So you may find it more cost effective to hard wire them in or I would stick a "wanted" thread up on here and MLR they may be in excess of £10/£15 though for little plastic plugs :disgusted:

:razz: been busy at work making this along with other bits whilst i was there...
So far ive got the COP kit plate, ive got the spark plug cover to go on before i fit it all (i think itl still fit once the cops on too... Hopefully :wtf and a battery strap. Currently working on a cooling panel too havent even started to source the actual parts for the COP kit yet though been far too busy wi this haha..
