Considering an Evo, what do you think of this?

Hi,

I've only just joined up and have been considering an evo or a scoob for a while. Not done much research on the evo side of things yet, but i've spotted one very close to where I live, which doesnt happen much!

Essentially i'm not up to speed with them yet and was considering viewing tomorrow, hence my lazy ask for peoples opinions on here.

Used Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2.0 4 door [Evo VIII] | Perrys

It looks decent enough, little low at the back? Is this a basic model then, as i've noticed it's 5 speed? Un sure whether i'm better buying from a dealer like this with warranty offered, or a private enthusiast car with an Evo.

Does that price look OK?

I'm wondering though if for the money would I be able to get less of a basic model? The better looking ones i've seen.

Any info about anything much appreciated. Meanwhile i'll be trawling the net for evo information!

Yes mate its a 260/GSR which is the basic model, what you will find as a few people will slate them saying there a fake evo, because their from the UK, but with the right mods you can achieve just over the 400 BHP mark, much more than that and it will require stronger internals.

It's very clean and on a late 05 plate, which is basic, do you know if it has any engine work done and and output figures yet?

The good points is that it has the better Spoiler fitted as they normally come with a tiny farty thing. and its the cheapest to insure, and it has ISOfix points for child seats.

So from what i can see from pics it has the better spoiler,better discs, its been lowered, and i think it has a SuperDrager fitted too.

the price is fine to me, how many owners has it had??

Would it be easier do you think to simply look in to one of the 300 versions, or would it be reasonably easy to nip this 260 up to say 280-300 if required? Is the suspension in this model as good as the others? And whats a super drager? May have to be careful if it's been modified, depends in service history also as I understand they require every 4500 miles or so.

What wont be much quicker as such?? the evo to the CTR??

Its better to get a FQ model yes as they come with Climate control, and have a 6 speed box. but if money wasnt a big problem the if get a FQ MR 340 /360 as they come with a 10.5 Turbo hotside, which is what people like myself who has a 260/GSR often change.

A HKS Superdrager is the Exhaust mate, im sure 260's have a basic system.
to get around the 400 mark you'll need.

The evo will be much much quicker buddy, it will have so much more torque than the EP3.

You need to get out and have a test drive just to feel the difference.

Exactly i thought he was messing :shock: No torque in the Type R engines, even the NSX is nothing to shout about like yeah ok its a 3ltr but still

Took a guy out in mine today, he drives a MK4 R32 golf daily so well used to it.

Mine blew him away!!! He could believe the difference, he got out muttering ways he could justify buying an evo

Thanks for the reply again very useful. Sorry I've been reading too much in to parkers it seems like haha. You've definitely persuaded me to test drive it.

Well money isn't a huge problem, but in an ideal world i'd like to spend no more than 8.5K if possible. The tricked up Evo's the 320 and 360 models seem to be a lot more expensive. Also i'm 23 next month, and got an affordable quote for that 260. I'll check some higher powered cars, but I can imagine probably be higher.

I don't understand why they made the UK ones 5 speed though, when reading the Evo review it says the japanese car has 6 speed, and also more of a turbo oomph.

The link with the performance info is very useful mate. Would you estimate I could see near 300bhp with spending under £1k? Do you happen to know if the 260 version has the same decent suspension set up with the diffs etc?

You could see 300 easily probably more from just a good map, exhaust and induction kit!

the 260 has just standard shock and springs, the MR models have Billies as standard. but you will spend between £250 - £450 for a set obv depending on condition and age ect.

With you only being 23 next month id get a 260 end of story otherwise you'll be raped with insurance, im only 24 atm, and i get cheap insurance due to my job so its a benefit i suppose.

Nope you get these seats.

Only pic i have of my old seats. but thats whats fitted inside a 260. their wider than the leather seats, so the bigger people benefit them. if you get me :angel:

5 speed box is better because it's stronger.
350bhp for around £500.
Suspension and diff are all the same from factory unless you look at an MR.
260 model good option for you as it is.
Don't go figure hunting because it'll cost you more than think...

OK sound thanks then. I'm going to keep an eye out. The one at doncaster looks to have shit tyres on as well so maybe not the best cared for example that one in particular, faded brakes also.

Unmolested/modded Evo is probably best for a 1st buy until you know what your doing. You also don't have to fix bad idea's...

Do you also agree with the previous poster then that the black one I posted at Vauxhall does look decent for the price and not a bad proposition?

I'd need to budget for tyres though as it seems to have some Event tyres on or something.

Your looking at 3-400 for full set of good tyres. More if you want premium top spec brand.
You can always negotiate on price...

I'm a bit suprised there arn't any enthusiast owned cars for sale on here, most owners club type forums are full of cars for sale. Didn't go to see that one looks a bit shabby with fresh eyes, and if I test drove it i'd end up buying it lol.

Problem is there are literally none around fitting the bill.
