cone filter

i have the standard air box on at the moment, is there any advantage to changin to a cone filter and also what would it do to the fuel consumption? just askin cause at the moment im £60 a week runnin costs not including weekend driving

Hi Steevie,
Changing the box to a cone will make several differences. The main difference will be that your engine will breath properly which will result in a little more performance.

It will also help to allow the engine to run a little cooler. It helps in the sound department too!!

As far as fuel consumption is concerned, I think that it will make little or no difference at all. The little difference that it does make will be in your favour. If the engine is performing a lot better, it will require less throttle.

There are several filters on the market but the best one has to be the K&N. It was tested extensively along side HKS, Nismo, Apexi, Blitz etc by experts on behalf of Banzai Magazine.

Conclusion: K&N allows a far superior air flow, trapping even the most smallest of particles and utilising them to tap bigger ones which means that it better the dirtier it gets!!!!

Add to that, it is advised by K&N not to clean it for 70000 miles, you will be better off with one of them.

the standard airbox (with airbox mod) is fine for just over 400bhp.

low speeds your engine will be sucking in warm air with a cone filter (do sound good though)


people don't realise that fitting a induction kit can have a huge affect on your map as it alters the airflow across the maf sensor, they usualy tend to make the car run leaner and more ignition timing.....so car will be faster but could be putting you close to the edge of safety!

so if you fit a induction kit you should really get it remapped to make use of it or at the very least get the cars fueling checked and also checked for detonation.

A cone with a heat shield will do a great job. What mods did you have in mind Sponners for a standard box????

im using a cone filter with a cold air pipe running down by oil cooler.
its great, works well & responsive.
the running costs for me are £120 a week in fuel. 150miles per tank. mostly weekend driving. mostly on boost!
