My 09 lancer has a very sensitive alarm. When anything larger than a van drives past my house the alarm goes off, and the same in carparks but then its even worse as any car driving past will set it off.

Is there a sensitivity control somewhere? I've been reading that a alarm box is under/below the steering wheel somewhere. Can anyone help?

It depends what model cobra alarm you have. As some you can adjust and some you can't. If you locate the alarm box the model should be on the side

I've finally had time to have a look into this. There is an airbag below the steering wheel so i'm not all that keen on taking the panel off. Is there a procedure to do this properly?

Disconnect battery for a good 30 minutes before you go down there or you come back up deaf, covered in white powder and possibly worse! Theyr not that bad really just be patient.
