Clutches ?

As some of you know ive just bought an evo 5, it has recently been fitted with an exedy twin plate clutch, I take it its normal that these are mega heavy?

Im thinking of fitting a more standard / lighter clutch that will cope with approx 350bhp, as its my daily driver it is pretty uncomfortable to drive and its the only thing about the car i dont like.

There are 2 types of exedy twin plates. SD & HD my guess is you've got the HD heavy duty

That's alot of money worth of clutch, how long has it been in ?

Your gonna need a flywheel cos the twin plate runs its own different flywheel
So best to get yourself a 6speed one and clutch to match. These have a bigger friction area so withstand more power than the 5speed one. Then just get yourself an OE spec exedy clutch kit. Best place for that is camskill.co.uk

Mine had a very heavy clutch in it when I got it but put a new exedy clutch in and it's much nicer to drive.

Ill find out which one it was. Apparently it was fitted recently and was bought from someone on mlr who crashed there car but the clutch was v new.

I have an exedy single plate clutch in and it is pretty light, carbonetics clutch is what I would buy if I needed a replacement. They can handle a lot torque/bhp and are said to give a light pedal feel to them.

Twin plate for a daily driver - its a work out for your left leg lol.

I have a Helix Organic Clutch in mine and feel's really nice and effortless! Mind you driving defender's everyday i would say that!

I had one of them in my vii. Nice clutch and they take a hammering

Just contacted the guy i bought the car from and he paid nearly £800 for the clutch which was nearly new when he bought it.
Ive just worked out the mileage and its done 7k miles.
Is it worth much ? as its coming out

is the clutch really that heavy!!! :shock: as i am thinking about buying a evo with the same clutch.. lol

i know the feelng mate,when i drove mine in london traffic for over two hours i knew about it,new clutch is soooooo much better and lighter.

Yes really heavy but as b6lee said there is a hd version which I may have. Just takes away the driveability especially if its your daily driver.
I work in a garage so its not a major problem to change it.
