Clutch ??????

I just want to check something, I was at a set of lights last night when a c**k in a rangerover sport decided to offer me out. When I pulled away at high revs the clutch pedal decided to engage on it's own. Is this normal or not????
Oh and I got owned by the rangerover lol

I don't go mad off the line as 9 times out of 10 I smell clutch when I do so I jus pull away promptly and go for it I don't wanna have to replace my clutch proving a point that don't need proving

Well think so, It started to redline in first gear then before I could push the clutch down myself it did it on it's own. I know jap cars are good but I didn't think they were that good.
It's it normal or is my car fooked

How high is the clutch pedal before it engages. Near the top and you'll be needing a new clutch soon if you keep launching it Otherwise it may just be the odd occasion. As long as it doesn't happen in normal driving only on a launch it should last...

It only happened on the two times I've launched it. The biting point is in the middleish.

It sounds like the clutch can't handle the power or you are slipping it to much prior to launching What happens say you are driving around in 1st or 2nd gear and you floor it and you come into boost quite heavy does it slip then?

It doesn't slip when I boot it when I'm in motion already

Well I don't think the clutch is knackered if it's holding when coming onto boost in a low gear what power are you running?

It's usually the higher gears ie 4th that the clutch is most likely to slip maenads you floor is at around 4000rpm.

Sounds like you may have a clutch cylinder problem if you momenterally lost the pedal either that or maybe the clutch bearing is pulling out the pressure plate

To test the clutch, sit @ 70 MPH in 5th gear, then plant the foot, if the revs rise and your speed does not increase when coming onto boost, clutch is on it's last legs, if you pull normally, clutch is fine.

However, before mine totally died it did give me a few warnings. It slipped once or twice, then stopped for a few months, then slipped another 1 or 2 times, then stopped again, then eventually started slipping all the time. From the very first slip until it totally died was approx 9 months in total! I do mean TOTALLY died, car was not drivable, could stick it into 5th while stationary and rev like it was in neutral

Join the club mate, my AYC light came on just weeks before my clutch properly died, then just recently I had an oil leak where the transfer box mates with the gearbox. To be fair, for a 13 year old car, it's not that bad.

If you really want unreliability get a Nissan S-body like a 180SX or 200SX (240SX for any Americans out there),they are unreliable cars! Evo's are a godsend in comparison. lol

As a matter of fact my AYC still doesn't work. Just removed the fuse under the bonnet, then removed the bulb from the dash, running with an open diff and unless you REALLY push it you can't tell, mine is a daily drive, so does not get abused every time it's out. However, I'm gonna get an RS diff when I get funds, hence not bothering to fix the AYC. Always said that if my AYC went an RS diff would be replacing it.

I noticed an oil leak coming from somewhere, the bed that supports the gearbox is covered in oil but not sure if it's from where I spilt about a pint when I missed the whole. Oh well I don't mind. The car still runs and drives kind of ok, although I do feel some vibrations through the pedals.

Have I gone all blonde or is that what happened???

Did it pop out of first gear into neutral when you redlined buddy???

It stayed in gear and the clutch pedal just hit the floor without me touching it

Ah, didn't properly read it, just glanced through. If the clutch pedal hit the floor it could be a problem with you clutch master or slave cylinders, however I would bleed the system first, and see how you get on with that.

I had my pedal fall to the floor when the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder came loose, but it would not come back up. Re-bled the system and made sure the bleed nipple was nice & tight, been fine since.

Have you checked the fluid level???

I suspect that you may have a leak somewhere.

I suggest that you inspect both the Slave and Master Cylinders buddy.

I'm guessing the clutch is hydraulic then? I've never had a car with one b4, I'm guessing it's bled the same way as the brakes??

I've fallen to the floor when I found out the cost of replacement carbon clutch plates:cry::cry: dunno if thats the same thing:whistling:
