clutch on its way?

Well ladies and gents I think my Clutch has just started to slip

driving 1st 2nd 3rd fine put on the power in 4th and revs go up but takes like 3secs for it to take the power....arrhhh!!

Anyways Im pretty sure its gonna be clutch cant think of anything else. question is how much should i be looking at to get it changed? or if anyone here wants the job? and what clutch should i go for its only stage 1 400/400.... standard? or shall i go for something with a bit more durability? I dont track, I only play with those occasional bikes/skylines etc

Yup that's clutch, engine is under more load in higher gears so slips there first, nurse it and it will see you through a bit more if you need to drive it. I nurses mine for a month before I drive to pod then to lincolnshire to change it. I put an exedy organic in mine as it's good for over 400. Your best bet is finding a helpful member who knows what they doing, I would but far to packed at work at the min and it's a ball ache job without a two poster

I've just changed mine.
I was advised to go for a twin plate and forget about it.
I bought an Exedy one, it wasn't cheap, about £1300 from Evotune + fitting but the way I figured it is if I went for a standard one at half the price and it went then I would end up with a twin plate anyway and it would be 2 x the cost for fitting them both.
I have done a bit of road miles and a wet track day on Saturday and it is great. I've had an Exedy organic and a padle before in other cars but I prefer this one over them both

So as used wknds only mainly if i just poodle about i should make it till after xmas? see i have receipts here from previous owner, it was changed on 20/12/2011 with a £425.15 Exeddy Uprated clutch thats covered only 16k.... i dont abuse her either to be fair so its quite annoying!! im gonna go to a transmission place tomorrow as its right nxt door to work just to confirm.

there is a very good step by step on clutch changing on youtube for E8.

It might help out a lot if you decide to do it by urself. of course. its a 2 men job.

Right unfortunately it's deffo slipping in 4th between 3k-4k...rpm drops then power is released.

Now I'm looking to get one ASAP. Will an exedy oem be ok? For 400/380? With no track use just the odd burn now and then? Also as clutch was done 16k ago and only just started to slip will I be ok with the flywheel?

If a std. Or uprated Exedy one like you said you had is only going to last 16k then regardless how hard you think you are being on the car and whether it is tracked or no it is obviously too much for the set up you have.
If you go for the same again that will have been £425 + fitting ?? X 2 for 32k of driving ?
As I said before fit a twin plate and your clutch problems will be forgotten if you stay at that power.

why dont you look at the Helix, things have moved on a bit over the last year and although you simply WONT get better than a twin there are now clutches that are comfy at 450bhp+ that will last a hell of a lot longer than a basic exedy

look at the ratings on these, well within the comfort zone

The 3 I short listed was exedy stg1. Helix organic, carbonetic blade,
I bit the billet and went for carbonetic as firstly it's a full kit inc matching flywheel and ant has one in his demonstrator evo x that's doing well and seems to drive like almost stock, unfortunately the prices have risen in the last few weeks,
Could you smell clutch burning when driven hard before it started slipping
My exedy std may have only lasted 16k but that was over 4 years use
Never launched, some people have done 40-50k. Don't know how tho!
Driving miss daisy watching the fuel gauge
There's lots of clutches to choose from inc twin plate, but £1500 fitted made me choke a little,

cheers guys yeah your all right... think as its getting near xmas 2 bdays in December aswell im trying to convince myself a little lol.... so sod it ill go a little to lightweight in the wallet department for comfort and get a decent one...
