Clutch issues

I've had my Evo 4 for 3 months generally in good condition.

The other day when returning home, i noticed that the car seemed to be reving a little higher than normal (not majorly but noticable). Parked up and left it. When returning to the car 4 days later and engaged reverse it slips really back, tried 1st and 2nd all the way up to 5th, slipping really badly only get about 10mph.

In my honest opinion it isnt the clutch and i can't see anything leaking from the Clutch mass Cylinder.

Does anyone have any idea?

How many miles has the clutch done?
But yeah 99.999% sounds like the clutch.

poss slave cyl. If you drove it home and was ok then after 4 days and no clutch then i would say the slave is leaking. Has the clutch master cyl (next to the brake master cyl) lost any fluid ?? (even if there is some fluid in it the slave can draw air into it as you pump the clutch pedal causing same probs. check it before you pull the gearbox out.

if the car is selecting gears then its not a hydraulic leak, and will definately be the clutch itself.

NOt sure how many miles the clutch has done as i've only had it 3 months, but the cars done about 73kish! Will have a good look in the am, beofore taking it to a clutch specialist! Been quoted £220 fitting (I have to supply the clutch). So not too bad! Just got to find a clutch! Anyone got any recommendations!

i would personally put a fast road clutch in it mate and a slave cylinder to be on the safe side there is loads on ebay and that let me no how much u get it done 4 and how much parts cost mine on its way

to be honest I wouldn't spend on a slave cylinder unless its knackered

a stage one clutch would be a better option as it will last longer or you could get a evo 7 clutch and flywheel which is slightly bigger and stronger.


if your running standard boost and not launching then the std item will be ok.

Got an EVO 5/6 clutch from Camskill £209.99 inc p&p.

Took it down South west transmission in Exeter (Quoted £220 + VAT to fit),
turned out i'd buggered the flywheel! had that reset (£100+ VAT).

Picked it up £300 in total cash!!!!!

£509.99 in total got off very lightly i think!

Only thing is the mass or slave cylinder is on the blind but not sure which one!?!?!? does anyone have any ideas of how to diaognose whih one??????

yeah sounds like the clutch i got 4 days out of mine when it started slipping
(but i was rag dolling it about lol )
it cost me £1000 for mine to get done i went for lightned flywheel and as above i went for the organic race clutch stay away from the exedys lol

im pretty new here and to be honest im not to clued up on cars but here goes, 14months ago i had my clutch relaced by mitsubishi and i am now having exactly the same problem with my car with the over reving and lack of power im convinced its the clutch as its still fresh in my memory after having to pay mitsubishi £1600 for new clutch and fly wheel, is there any way i can get this work done cheaper and is it normal for a clutch to be replaced that often??

Its an evo 7 and over 13 months I've done 10k I don't know wether its the way I drive it always seems to be something after the other with this car lol I've had her for 2years now and I'm thinking ahould I just settle for a sensible car but how boring would that be

I was told after buying mine that standard Evo clutches are good for 10k if driven reasonable ( not hard all the time),don't do the racing starts helps! Find gearbox specialist and buy your own clutch, this is the cheapest way if you can't do the work yourself. Clutches can be bought off eBay or other specialist websites, I got mine off Camskill.co.uk!
