clutch fault :O( broken release bearing clip

hi guys

having a little trouble with the evo :O( i know what a shock its been so reliable even with all i have done to it ..



went to drive off and the clutch peddle hit the floor . nearly giving me wiplash as it is a 6 paddle clutch .



it seams that the clip the holds the pull type release bearing to the pressure plate has failed , its not just uncliped :O(

i no whats comming next , its box off time .. not to much of a problem for me its just finding the time to do it ..


what i am wondering is this a common problem is there a stronger fix ????



i have the old parts left over from my old clutch , eg clip / bearing ect so am hoping they will just swap over and be a easy fix as i dont really want to buy a new clutch ..



its only just happened and i havnt had time to drop the box off , but will do some time this week so dont no if any other damage has been done or even why the clip has failed .


on a plus side if there is one i want to change the steering rack and the front anti roll bar D bushes and i no this will be easier with the boxs out the way :O)

i not heard of this prob being common, i would say sttraight replace and hope for the best mate

no its not a comon problem. id be putting in a waranty claim

I'd try clipping it back in first and trying again.

Funny, when i bought my evo rhere was a reciept for a clth replacement, cutch felt kinda iffy but not bad.. clutch blew up 2000kms later and i didnt find a release clip in the aftermath,.sounds like it slipped out+disintegrated

when fitting the new clutch i noticed hw easy it was to knock the clip off with the input shaft while putting the box back in.

its fixed :O)


pulled the box this morning to find i was right the clip had broken but not how i would have imagened ???



i seems that the seat part of the clip assembly has split and thrown the rest off which should have ment a replacment clutch cover :O(



what i found and what i have done is use the complete clip assembly from my old clutch that i kept for some strange reason :O)
as i need the car for work and am saving for some forge parts and a twin plate so dont want to spend now if i can help it :O)


the clip assembly is a perfect fit and a easy swap : all just clips together :


the clutch is still perfect all 6 paddle still there and no scoring the bearing is still ok so happy dayz :O)




i will be emailing the clutch co that supplyed it and see what if any thing can be done . think it might be out of warranty now will have rto check .


so all is good and works perfect at no cost which cant be bad

ah nice one. shame you had to pull the box out for such a simple fix though isnt it

was a simple fix in the end but as you said what a shame to have to pull the box :O(


it didnt take long just a morning and i do work in a garage so no cost ' thank god :O)


but again on a plus side it made fitting the steering rack easier i got to inspect the clutch and change the steering fluid and oil in the box's ..

so i call it a good day in the end :O)

seen this happen a few times with the older exedy/cusco twin plates, cheap repair, but just a mighty pain in the arris.
