Clutch change

Hi guys

I'm in need of some advise I'm doing a clutch change on my E8 and the destructions I have been following say I need to remove the out put shafts in order to split the transfer box from the gear box but dose not say from what side and how.

Has any 1 got any advise for me

Yes you will need a slide hammer, screwed into the end of the output shaft and it pops out, it's held in with a circlip I think they call it

Another thing is you don't need to completely remove the transfer box just clear it from the gearbox and tie it over to the drivers side as much as you can

And make sure you release the tob before tryin to split the box

Throw out bearing. I have to do my clutch the end of this month too as mine is slipping. Although I put my clutch in the engine was out at the time so I wanted to check the order of things I'll try find it and post it for you mate

Yer been using this as a ref but it didn't say any thing a clip on the output shaft

It says when using the slide hammer to pop the shaft out it says about a ring or clip or something. Basically summat round on the end of the shaft that slots into a ridge to keep I in place

Use a slide hammer on the end of the output shaft on drivers side to remove that, the clip is just internal and is what stops the shaft dropping out, thats why you need the slide hammer. If i remember rightly you can then use a punch through the box to tap the shaft out from the other side.

thats right. you need to screw an M8 bolt into the end of the off side output shaft. then using a slide hammer you can shock/pull the output shaft out of the box.
yes there is a clip on the end of the shaft. this wil compress into the grove round the end of the shaft and enable it to be removed

easiest with a helper, have em play with pedal,and you twist the screwdriver thru the access hole.

next time i do my clutch,ill take pictures and vids.

output shaft,just thread a m8 bolt into it, then a slide hammer..easy.. or grab with a mole grips frm the side and hit that with a hammer(arkward tho)

the transfer case is heavier than it looks lol ,the box is waay heaveir than it looks..older mitsi boxes were much lighter(or its just me gettin older)--

i used to swap clutches on my Eclipse in under 2 hours.. was basically the same procedure.

thanks guys picked up a slide hammer this morning so will give it a go tomoz.

have been taking pics as i go along so when im done i will post them up, they may even help someone els if they do there clutch.

ya dont have to tap the other shaft out through the transfer box mate, the box comes off with it in place.

Thanks for the help guys got the shafts out not easy with the slide hammer lol

But got another prob I have cracked 5 out of the 6 bolts holding on the transfer box but can't get to the last from wot I can see the the 6th bolt is behind some kind of oil feed pipe and when loosened it spitting out oil.

The pipe goes off to the back of the car anyone got any ideas what it is?

That's the ayc pipe, you will have to do the ayc anyways so just get dribbled on mate
