Clutch Change

So I've had my Evo 8 about 2 months now and two weeks ago the clutch decided it didn't want to work any more. :sad:
After persuading a couple of friends to help, with the promise of beer and pizza we managed to get the clutch changed in about 20 hours with the car on axle stands.
Anyways here is a few photos of the process in case anyone is interested

My thoughts exactly when I saw it! Think the rivets on the old friction plate had been gouging it. Yes it's all set up and running fine now, nice to be able to accelerate again !

Yea, and a lot more work involved in changing clutch on a 7/8/9 than a 4/5/6. Stupid subframe !!

Yep! Plenty of tea/food breaks and lots of head scratching! First time I've done a clutch on a 4wd car and the first time I've taken more than the wheels off it!

That's a good effort then !!

How did you get on with the clutch bearing ?
And what did you do with the transfer box ?

Clutch bearing was fine it released fairly easily during disassembly and didnt get knocked by the gearbox when assembling, I left the prop shaft attached to the trans case and shoved it to one side. The main problem (other than the gearbox! ) was removing that ouput shaft from the diff !

I get you, just pushed it back did you ?

beginners luck with the bearing then lol

yea best way is to wind a M8 bolt into output shaft and pop it out with a slide hammer

Yep easier said than done, I also didn't have a slide hammer, Mate made a make shift one from the arm of the engine crane and a bracket that the m8 bolt went through, plus a pry bar, Eventually got the b*****d out!

I had a length of m8 threaded bar with a selection of washers, a socket and the head of a lump hammer to slide up it lol

Great work! Love to see people getting their hands dirty rather than all the mods/work done by tuners.

I just did my first ever gear box out and clutch change... All be it a bit easier on a rover tdi

Half way through doing my 6 thrust bearing just would not come off, so undid cover plate bolts through the clutch arm hole. Are the arm springs meant to hold the thrust bearing under tension (pull)to stop it releasing or have I got them on wrong? Forgot to take a photo.

Nope those springs just reset the position of the "arm" and release bearing after you take your foot of the clutch. Have you got the gear box off? or are you trying to release the retaining clip from the access hole?

Gearbox off and on the floor, changed thrust bearing but doubting myself as the springs seem to pull on the thrust bearing as if the clutch arm is under pressure from the slave cylinder.

Yep that's fine, did you get the arm off by removing a cap above the axle thing it pivots around and knock it up and out? It sounds like you are doing everything I did!

Yes removed cap etc. Gearbox back in now and will get the rest of it back together this weekend.
