Check Engine Light

Twice this weekend, when casually pulling away at no more than 2k, my check engine light came on for about 2/3 secs and then turned itself off.
I continued driving after the light disappeared and it drove perfectly fine e.g. boost was fine, no stuttering etc.
After the first time it happened, my Dad plugged in his diagnostic machine but apparently the machine detected no problems. He hasnt plugged in the diagnostic machine for the second time it happened because hes working at the moment but I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.

Btw, everything is standard except for the performance exhaust.

Another thing, when i have my Sony CD player quite loud, it turned itself off three times and restarted itself (when it restarted, all my settings were the same),fuse issue possibly?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its not been mapped?
I've not found a diagnostic machine that reads the evo's except evoscan. So that might be why you got nothing come up. Flash them out on the dash. Wire from pin 1 to 4 on the obd port with ignition on.
CD player turns off by itself or when you hit a slight bump/dip? loose wire possibly?

Thanks for the replies guys.
According to the previous owner, it is totally standard bar the performance exhaust :S
I havent had the ECU read by anyone but i've had the car for over a week now and it only happened this weekend...
My Dad has a 'Launch' Diagnostic machine and hes quite adamant that it should work because hes downloaded the software.

Sorry to bother you with the CD player issue, i shouldnt be so lazy and just check the basics myself so i'll do that when i've got a spare minute soon. That engine light is a bit worrying though!!

Hi
I have an evo 6 also, but quite modified. I find that my engine light comes on for a couple of seconds just before 3k revs. I was told it could be engine knock. I run on Tesco momentum so dont think its knocking. It runs fine, in fact b....dy well so im not worrying.

it will only flash the engine light if its been mapped to flash the light on knock, or is running an aftermarket ecu which flashes on knock...

Thanks for the replies.
Im glad its happened to other people as well though (then i know im not going crazy and think im the only one its happened to) and im glad as well that it hasnt affected you at all Hughandjenny.
The light has not come on ever since so hopefully its not a major problem or a problem at all.

Update on my original post... Whilst driving today, the check engine light came on 6 times!! Everytime it only stayed on for about 2/3 seconds and then turned off. Each time i pressed the accelerator whilst the light was on, it would judder and then proceed as normal but to happen 6 times is quite annoying.
To top it off, when i came off a roundabout, the car switched itself off so i had no steering so i had to refire the engine whilst moving.
I'm not going to lie, scared me a bit when i saw the crossing island approaching.

Any help on my updated situation?

You need to get this checked by a pro ... An evo specialist not just any mechanic

Im in Sidcup, not that far from Sittingbourne however, there is a garage closer to home that specialises in Evos so i'll get it checked out by them and see what they say and hopefully they'll have a clue as to why. Thank you anyway RG, appreciated.
In your own opinions, do you think it is something serious or could be something like a loose connection in my electrical system or even a badly mapped ECU?

Name this other evo specialist garage then??

You previously said it wasn't mapped so how can a std map be the problem?

Hayes engineering in Erith. I've been told they specialise in Evos so i was going to give them a call. Otherwise i will definitely be going to Rich at RG :)
I believe it is a standard map but i havent had it checked myself so im purely going on the word of the previous owner...
