Can I run with no balance belt?

It's snapped and taken out my CPS, so the car wouldn't start. All I want to do is change the CPS to see if it starts, if it does I'll sort then balance belt too (since it's a huge job).

So would it be ok to start the car with the balance belt off?

For me I'd be on the phone asking an evo specialist his opinion. Not something I'd be trying myself tho. That's not to say you can't. Sorry if this doesn't sound that helpful.

If you don not want a balancer belt you must fit a delete kit and which is a big job, usually fitted when people are building there engine.

If you're running without one you will be asking for trouble.

Ok cheers, good advice. This sounds like a stupid question but I want to be sure. Do I need to remove the cambelt?

Best to change cambelt and tensioners to be safe

It's normally the balancer belt that gives up before the cambelt
You're lucky it didn't take the cambelt off

Balance belt is behind the cambelt. So do it all. You should not run without a balance belt. As one shaft is run of the cambelt and you will end up with bad engine vibration due to the imbalance.

To be fair, the balance shaft belt is really easy to change. It's the whole job of changing the cambelt that's the major job. But once your in there to do the balance belt as well is no real extra bother :)

Just did the job myself and the balance belt is not hard at all if you are confident enough to do the cam belt you should be good with the balance belt
