Buying Guide evo 10

Hi,

Looking at buying an evo 10, is there a buying guide on here? Or can someone tell me some of the specific pitfalls I should look out for? Planning on looking at an fq-330 on Friday and I'd just like to know if there are any particular week points too look out for? I am told the car is totally standard, has full Mitsubishi history and is on about 25,000 miles.

When is the cam belt due? What is the service schedule like, it has had 4 services, the first at 1000 miles though so the next one due will be about 28k looking at the frequency of the others. Is that a big one or not and what sort of price would a service at a dealers cost?

Hi and welcome

You just need to do the usual checks you would on any other car. Check for turbo smoke, odd idling, ayc pump (this is expensive if faulty). Quite a few pumps have failed around the 30k mark on 10s. You should have 5/6 stamps in the book. Roughly serviced every 4500 miles. Dealers are expensive but Mitsi history does make a difference when it's resale time but if you find a known specialist, just as good and you'll save some money (more fuel money)

Service interval as pe recommendation is every 12 month or 10k. I would do it more often as you don't really want to use the oil that long.

There have been some AYC pump failing, but not many compared to cars sold.

There has also been some issues with the SST box, however again compared to the amount of cars sold it is not a big issue. Costly if out of warranty though but yo now have specialists like TRL who can do great work with these boxes at a fraction of the cost.

Check that the cloth is not coming away from the plastic at the top of the Recaro seats. This has been a problem on some cars, mine included. I had it fixed under warranty.

Standard alloys have in some cases started to 'flake' around the centre, again this is covered under warranty.

Please be aware though that all current X's are actually 2008 model as they were imported in a batch back then to be 're-modelled' by CCC. This means that any 'New' cars still have the old dashboard with orange display rather then the newer more colourful display.

Cheers guys, I am looking at an 08 car so so not to worried about the interior I don't have anything to compare it too. It'll still be luxury compared to the Elise.

AYC pump? Is that Active Yaw Control? What is it? What does it do and how would I know if there is a problem? What should I look for?

Are you buying the car from a private seller or a dealer/specialist?

I'm looking at one at a dealer, although not a Mitsubishi or even a performance car specialist. Just a few concerns that if the car has full service history and immaculate and previous owner was enthusiast etc. Why isn't it on a Mitsubishi forecourt following a trade in against a new one? Will be seeing if they include any sort of warranty.

Has anyone been offered a trade in on on 08 car with low miles if so what were you offered, what's book on this? Will be a cash buy so need a good deal after loosing so much on my current roller-skate. :-(
