Is the altenator on the rear of the engine?

I have found the ticking noise to come from there, once sprayed with WD40 on the cambelt on the i assume altenator bearing which the cambelt is on the ticking stops.

Will a worn bearing or bush cause a ticking noise?

that's a good shout lee! What are they 10. 20 pound's.

yea your right :)

is that 3 in 1 oil? the stuff you get in a small tin...?

May have to invest in a cam belt change sometime, it was done in may 2009.

5 years 45,000 miles for cambelt change mark, just go for the auxillery belt to cure the squeak for now :)

You shouldn't oil a belt anyway! They need to be dry to do their job. But a new Belt. Sounds like a bit of the tooth has come away.

Strange one so far, left to dwell in WD40 overnight, have driven the car and no ticking. Had a squeek for 1 second on start up and thats it.

the belt spins very fast so will just flick the wd40 out of it and the belt gets warm so will also help to dry it out :)
