Burnt clutch

Hi Guys,
Just to cut a long storey short...

What do I do in this situation.
I bought a second hand clutch from a member on here who assured me there was plenty of meat on it.
When I got it I expressed concern about the amount of carbon or what ever is on a paddle clutch plate was left on the surface.

The guy told me this was a performance clutch and this is normal for a high performance plate to be like this. I went to the local garage and they asked me to reassure my self again by asking the vendor was he sure it was good to fit, so I did and got a very similar reply
"this is well within the tolerences for this clutch and has plenty of life in it. it was bought from mardi gras motorsport and they will be able to comfirm this."

Sooooo I (local Garage) went ahead and fitted it, now it is fitted and there is a terrible noise coming form the clutch and it's slipping, so obviously I can't drive it.
Now I am out of pocket the price of the clutch, Flywheel, pressure plate etc., postage to Southern Ireland (expensive) and the fitting of the clutch, thats alot of Dosh for a guy that couldn't afford a new clutch in the first place...
I have PM'd the guy a few times on here asking for my money back for the clutch only, not the fitting, postage etc.

I have asked him for his phone number, as well but no reply.


WHAT DO I DO?

Sorry to hear about your situation but........ Why buy a second hand clutch? Would you buy second hand brake pads? Items like this should be bought as new IMO, but apart from that how did you pay for the item?

Sorry to hear mate, unfortunately I don't think there is much come back on this. Things like clutches should really be bought new and if things are tight, you should really wait and save, as it's not just the meat left on the pads but the fingers loose tension too which could be the problem. Give the person time to reply and if you think you have given enough time, pop it on rogue or rose thread as to warn others.

Thanks for advise guys,
I presumed most of the guys on here are genuine and I'd like to still think they are.

Do you really think I'm being unreasonable asking for the price of the clutch back concidering I have paid to get it over here (something like £40),fit it and post it back.?

I think I would give an honest description of an item and stand by it..

Am I the only one?

If the part isn't fit for purpose, no your not unreasonable asking for the money back, although I think it's prob gonna end up being a lesson for future. Like I say, the seller may actually have thought the clutch was ok, it may not have slipped with him, or like I said it might be the fingers that have lossed tension when removed. Good luck anyways pal hope it gets sorted
