building a wall

well people off to boston to my dads in a couple days to build a wall around his garden.

never built one before so havnt a clue how long it will take. along one of the sides its roughly 30 meters another about 25 anoher 35 and 15. strange shape i hear you say, well not really i will get some pics up when i get there. using the figure of 8 breeze blocks how long will it take to build it im there for a week.

footings have been dug and cement layed and dry.

any tips and advice

na my dads adament he wants to do it himself he even went out and got a mixer, think he wants it on his repotoire lol.

after spending 1800 quid on digging up the concrete that was down and 600 quid for the cement for the footings my stepmum wont let him spend anymore lol

haha yeap +1 with that mate goodluck brick laying is not as easy as it looks i have had a go at laying breeze blocks once and i was s***t at it could dig the footing piece of piss but that's about it lol... is the footing level or is there a step in it???

there is only 1 step in the footing all else is level. im lookin forward to it and kind of feel obliged as my dad rebuilt my engine for me and did the 200 mile round trip to pick my car up on a trailer so its the least i can do really.

not as easy as it looks believe me, i used to labour on my father who is a builder when he was laying bricks/blocks

cavity blocks a little bit more stable than 4 inch solid so thats a help starting off i was able to lay them pretty good but i never spent enough time doin it to pick up speed as i went and done a joinery apprenticeship

it depends how fussy you are really it takes a while to get the beds right and pointing them up

luckily no pointing is needed as the outside will be rendered and painted white so dont need to be overly neat with the mortar lol

Haha yeah mine would probably fall down to lmao!... We just use to stick footings in and if there was a step in it we use to have to work the step out in courses...

make sure you cover it up over night for a few days mate now its frosty else itll perish ya mortar and it'll be no good at all then cos ya blocks will go loose.

Yh I said to my dad about some sheets to cover with. We are starting the wall on Saturday as at the moment I'm painting the house which is loooonnnggggg lol.
