brake pad bracket?

Just recieved my Evo VII brembo calipers(finally) but one problem there seems to be missing a thin cooper looking bracket its a cross(+) shape piece that sits between each pad inside the caliper. Can anyone tell me what they are actually called?

RSMark, I know what you are talking about mate but the name seems to have slipped my mind. It is part of the fitting kit and the purpose of it is to minimise vibration whilst the brakes are in lock mode.

Hi mate,
Should be compatible with the evo IV, don't get rid of your existing hoses as you may need them. Have you had a look at the callipers to see if they are compatible with the existing brake pipes???

What is wrong with the existing hoses? are they torn? or are you just going for an upgrade??

On another note Mark, can you take a look at my recent thread evo v skyline v sti and give a reply as soon as you get time please.

Hi El yes just doing an upgrade, thought i would seeing as im doing everything else brake wise.

the only changes i'd say would be a banjos/unions.

hav u fitted the 7 brembos 2 ur evo 4 yet? i got evo 5 brembos disc and calipers for my 4 but i need 25mm wheel spacers get them 2 fit.. theirs 17 rc advans on.. just a heads up let me now how u get on wen u fit them thanks

vo i havn't fitted them yet still waiting on this bracket and i need to get plenty off other parts before i can fit them, discs, Hel hoses and caliper bolts.

i got evo 6 alloys to go on so it should be ok not needing spacers on.
225/45/17 and 7.5J
What size are your alloys?

rc advans 17/45/215 i tink. i got 25mm wheel spacers for the front and gettin evo5 wings and the back 1s fit grand.. just wanted now wat way u were goin about it.. thanks

that would be why then, the alloy rim is obviously too thin for the Evo. 215 tyre, that would be a 7J alloy, as where the Evo 6 Super turismo is 7.5J

first off thanks for the heads up, seems that the tyre size hasnt made much difference.
the tyres rub slightly on the front, theres around 1cm clearance from the strut but it rubs on full lock on the mudflap.

so i need spacers too. do i need spacers for the rear aswell to keep the wheels aligned?

Are they 35's 45's or what???
A spacer is only usually required if the rim does not sit on the hub correctly.

they are 225 tyres. the tyre rubs on full lock righthand side while not moving and rubs while turning a bit left handside while moving.

Hi Mark,
Yes the tyre is a 225 but is it 45 or 35???

Spacers may make a difference but that is only in regards to the overall drive, you need 35's or at the very least you need to come down to 215's, this is a common issue that's why the originals are always best.
Yes the ones you have now may look better but there are speedo issues that need to be taken into consideration as well.

If you are running on 45's and have a centimetre clearance then the 35's will give you a further 10mm but when you come to pot holes or bumps then you will be regretting it.

hi got you. Sorry its a 45, ive been loking at where the tyres make contact and found they do on:

mudflap bracket and the inner fender/ plastic trim inside the arch.
Ive cut away a fair amount of it and it doesn't rub as much.

the ride is awesome and doesn't really knock on the strut unless you hammer it over bumps and potholes. there is a 1cm clearance from tire to strut.

Just a case off changing my driving style, lets hope the brembos go straight on without any problems.

in all honestly im happy to remove the inner fender to cure this problem. lets hope it doesn't fail an mot with slight rubbing?

You will be better off changing down to a 35 and try going for a 215 on the front, leave the rears as they are.

Cutting into the guard is not good mate, not good at all. Removal is not a good idea. The brembo's will fit no problem the new problem you will face is rust on the inner arches and across the bulk head.

All this for bigger brakes?????

Do the change I have advised and look out for some more guards, I think you already have some don't you???

i know fussy git. sealing the chassis isn't a problem for me as i also own an 1980s Ford RS and sealing that is a must, So 215/35/17 on front and 225/45/17 on rear is ok to do on a car?

the RS is running great, or should i say it was. battery is dead and doesnt charge, i haven't drove it since october so need to get that sorted aswell ready for summer.

Cheap trick, but you probably know it already....
drain the existing acid in the battery and top up with de-ionised water right to the top and let it trickle charge over night with the caps off, it will boil over, throwing out whatever excess water it has over the cell levels and should be good to go.
