Hi guys once again I am here at your mercy, I have a hole in the top of my transfer box. It is about 12mm in diameter and in like a 4" x 4" plate held on by bolts.... should there be a open hole there?

- Also there is talks of a pipe that runs from the transfer box to the gear box some where on top.... if so where is this exactly I want to check for leaks....

- There is a sensor of some sort on the back of the engine block closer to the gearbox side with one wire going to it.... what is this for?

- Final question I promise where do i fill the transfer box oil and gear box oil / drain both as well and which oil to use.

need some knowledge also on if the alternator is knackered and the car not getting correct voltage around the system would it cause the car to run like crap and miss fire and eventually cut out after about 5-10 mins :hm:

cheers guys in advance

hi
the hole is for a plastic breather i believe

and the sensor could be the oil pressure switch .

the car likes to run around between 12 and 14v . nearer 14 is best ... so any thing less wont do :O(

:O)

.please remind us what evo you have . check out the pic's in these fleebay ads to get a better idea :O)

EVO 7 8 9 VII VIII Transfer Box 28,000Mile 100% OK L@@K | eBay

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO Evolution 5 6 Transfer Case Box | eBay

.

it is a evo 4, I bought it with problems that I knew about but now some more are cropping up  but I am a capable person who likes a bit of a challenge so look forward to getting stuck in....
I have got a replacement alternator which I am going to put on tomorrow hopefully this will cure the bad running the alternator is deffo bad only putting out 0.023 dc volts. The battery had 13.5 to start then 10, 9 , 8, 7 so on and so on then cut out???

the black plate on 1 of the pics you listed is where the hole is???

just hope it runs nice when i replace alternator. Also need to replace the sump gasket as it looks like it is dripping oil

I'd get the breather on ASAP, as when you move forward the gears will throw oil out.

Right got down to some work today on the evo...

- done the alternator, car runs much smoother still sounds a little ropey and like it is blowing from the manifold or around that area..

- put the correct breather bung thing back on the transfer box case...

-problem is now I charged the battery on the car to full, fitted the alternator and started, the car ran better and battery light didn't come on, brilliant you would say!!
I turned the car of and washed it, went to turn it back on and battery dead turned over once then click click.....

- I am now thinking the battery is knackered and not excepting the charge from the alternator is this likely?????

any idea guys before I send this car to the dealership very reluctantly!!!
The blowing I can here from the front end, I heard a newer evo and it sounded very similar is there a common fault or is it the way they sound :hm:

I am really getting frustrated with the evo 4 and on the verge of selling it!!!

I found a fuse under the bonnet that was blown it is the 100 amp one in the bottom right of the fuse box number 15 I think, what does this do EXACTLY....

I have replaced the fuse but the car will not run when I do.... It will start but it runs only with my foot on accelerator and lumpy as hell miss-firing and spluttering (engine light on). Soon as I lift of the gas it cuts out instantly. There is a rapid clicking noise coming from the back of the dash central in position when I am forcing it to run..

When I take the fuse out i.e as if it was blown the car will start and idle ok, but as soon as you rev the car up it will try to cut out. (like there is a bad earth) when the fuse is out the clock and mileage wont display unless i rev it?

I have cleaned the main earth strap from the gear box to the battery, is there any more I should clean??? I just want to drive her
