Boosting levels on E4

moring all,
just wounderd what would be classed as a safe boosting lvl for say a standerd E4, i know they are 0.8bar standerd would you be able to run say 1.1bar with stock turbo.

Its not the turbo you need to worry about, its the fuelling. I wouldn't go over 1.1 without considering upgrading to the 5 ecu and injectors.

Same opinion. Get the updated parts last thing you want is to run lean and start debting

My e4 has an evo 5 ecu and injectors along with a walbro fuel pump. It's currently running 1.3 bar.

What is the limiting factor after this stage, is it the rods? Pistons? Or just the evo 4 engine in general? I know a 6 engine for example will take 1.8 bar (I think) on standard internals at roughly 380bhp with the same torque roughly, so what is stopping the evo 4 engine running that boost and power, and has anyone tried it?

I know it's the 'runt' of the family, just curious as to why?

hardly,, its been going strong for 3 years,, and allways been at least 1.5 bar.

serviced regular using best of oils etc etc,,

touch wood will continue to keep going, but IF it does go bang, i will come back here and you can say i told u so,, :whistling:

Well this is what I'm asking, why don't people up the boost levels on a 4, I imagine people have tried it and it's went pop, but what is the weak point? The rods?

I will be buying a later block for mine when I need more power, so when I do I may just push the 4 engine to see what happens!

i had a 4 engine running 1.8ish bar, no prob 580 inj and apexi ecu, when that engine was removed and checked all was ok, we sold it.. BUT would NOT recomend this we had a spare forged motor waiting to go in, the general rule for a 4 is 1.2/3 bar, get 255 fuel pump get fuelin checked happy days, A 4 ecu will boost to 1.7bar before fuel cut, the 5/6 is usually 1.2, so i think unless your upgrading engine i cant see the point of changing to the 5/6ecu an injectors, the money it would cost to buy an have map for what a few extra bhp..........

yea i wouldent say it was the run of the litter at all same block people are a bit more worrid about upping presure due to the age but if it runs ok and is well lokked after you can run just as much power as the 5 and 6

just to say no 2 engine are the same even if they are the same year whether e4 -e9.

the engine is only as strong as its weakest part and in the evo 4 that usualy is the rods and possibably the crank / and due to there age and higher milage they can be a little tired for higher power.

but that dont mean you cant run at highter boost levels as long as its a good engine to start with and have been looked after .

oh and the rest of the car is up to spec for the higher power , eg clutch / brakes :O)

IMO no more than 1.3, seen a few running 1.5 but engine didn't last long

I run mine at 1.2. Standard fuel pump, injectors and map. When i upgrade them i will up it to 1.5. Its done 120,000 miles and is still a good strong engine so the age / miles thing is bs in my opinion too.

i have an 8mr turbo on mine,, think its a good 380bhp turbo,, but im happy even if its340/ 350 etc, as for the time being its going well :whistling:
