Best year to buy

Hi I am looking at an evo for my next car I've currently got a supra na I was looking at the evo 8 or 9 which is best?
Also what spec should I get I now there is the FQ and the MR FQ which would be the best option I will be slightly modifying it to about 5-600bhp

The 8 and 9 are fairly similar tbh, but the 9 does have a bigger turbo so more scope for tuneing etc, The MR's (Mitsubishi Racing) I think are only suspension upgrades from the normal FQ's, the engines themselves are the same so it's really what will suit you, what you will upgrade yourself and ultimately what you can find out there. You thought about a 5 or 6? I don't know much about them but there's plenty of people who would say they are excellent.
Either way you will need to upgrade the engine internals to get that kind of power. Theres a nice thread on here about upgrades.

Hello and welcome i would say both the 8 & 9's are great cars word of advice dont go chasing numbers as at some point it will end up in tears i have heard a lot of people having there evo's tuned up to 500 to 600bhp and going badly wrong and spending all that money its just not worth it. I am hoping to have my evo 7 tuned to 400/400 and that will be my cut off no more as it just becomes a unreliable car and it would be off the road more times then on it and its just not fun anymore.

Also what would be the best FQ is there a lot of difference?

You should really go for the IX, but if you're modding it to that power then you'll be pretty much changing everything anyway so I guess it doesn't matter a lot which you get. Likewise if you get an FQ, the hardware upgrades will all go, but you'll get xenon lights and a better interior with an FQ, and the lights alone are worth it.

Like Ray said about the bhp I don't want it to be off the road more than on it.
So if I go with a IX which FQ are there much difference between all the FQ?
What would be the max bhp I could go before changing all the parts I was thinking uprate the turbo etc so basic things

The differences between the FQs are only really in the map which you're going to change anyway, along with the turbo etc which is why you shouldn't concern yourself with the hardware differences. As well as the lights, the higher-end models come with sat nav too, it's just things like that, nothing performance related.

If you seriously want that kind of power then you need to research and pick a tuner (MA Developments, Simon Norris, Indigo GT etc etc, there are many) and see what they say. Whatever you want they've already done and the likes of Norris and MAD will know what you need to get you that power all day long, and they'll let you know how deep your pockets need to be too. It'll cost you more than the car itself though.

Ok thanks I'm think I will just buy a 8 9 and just uprate the turbo etc only miner parts I would be happy with around 350-400bhp

If you want 400 then get a IX, it'll get to 400 with stage 1 upgrades (it has MIVEC),an VIII will take more work to get there.

Here is some links that might help you out and deside what you want. Do a lot of reading about tuneing read people's posts who have got to 500 to 600bhp i can tell you now that there will be good and bad reports in my mind 500 to 600bhp is a track car not a road going car but that's just the way i look at it and to be honest you will never get to use the full 600bhp on the uk road's not unless you want the boys in blue to take your car off you.
