Mornin all
I'm looking to purchase an EVO 4 today but have been warned of the AYC?
Having been with the subaru scene for some years now - I don't have the foggiest what this is or how to detect it.
Any advice on what to look for and what to avoid - much appreciated :D

AYC is Active Yaw Control.
It is a clever system which keeps the rear end in check.
2 ways to check are a very tight slow corner and a faster change of direction like a roundabout (fast left right left).
If there is an issue you will hear a squaking donkey noise.
There is also a light to keep an eye out for.

Have fun. :D

Oh dear - it does make a bit of a noise - sounds more like a rubbing though - i thought it may've been where its so bleeding low - sounds like the tyres are scuffing on something!

OK - so worse case scenario is the AYC - how do i know if my definately has this? Also, i have an electric dash so nothing is where it should be - so what light would i be looking for?

If i do have the AYC and it is faulty - what do i do - buy a new one?

You never know, if its lowered it may not be the AYC.
Id drop in to a mitis garage and get them to drop it on the fault code reader. That should shed some light on it.
As for buying new bits, depends whats broken. Pumps are fairly easy to come by and are by far the most common issue.

If it is the AYC it might be a costly repair. depends where you source parts and labour etc

Hi I am a newbe to Evo's also, had my 5 for 4 weeks now and loving it. Mine was making a rubbing noise on cornering. Had it looked at by someone in the know, all they did was change the oil in the AYC, flush it out because it was jet black dirty, refilled and the noise is gone...
The recon typical prices for new units around £800 upwards for second hand units!
