Ayc codes after changing steering wheel

Hi all,

I helped a friend change the steering wheel on his 4 at the weekend. We had to remove the clock spring thing to fit his new boss.

He's driven the car today and his ayc light flashed up a few times. I scanned it for him earlier and got the following codes; Engine ecu was 24 and ayc was 34 and 41.

Has this happened due to the clock thing being removed ?

I'd say it has nothing to do with the clocks tbh, more money for lee to spend

Is the AYC light on all the time or is it intermittent???

It came on after going around a big turn aparently

I need to know if it is intermittent or if it is on all of the time....

It will most like come on when you go round bends as that is the only time that the AYC is under stress loads.

Get back to me with whether or not it is on all of the time or every now and again.

I spoke to my friend and he just said it only came on once when going round a big bend.

Well that's fine then.

He will save himself a lot of headache if he has the AYC Fluid drained & replenished sooner rather than later.

Do not attempt to have a go yourself unless you have a MUT Tool....

Yep I have evoscan and a OP 2.0 cable so should be able to do it.

I think it's more likely to be atributed to by a lose wire as the codes evoscan has bought up were open circuit ones from the steering input.

Did you reset the DTC's?

If so, have they returned?

Check all connections and then commence with the drain / replenish sequence.

Yes I did. He hasn't said its returned tho.

it is still coming but not straight away it goes out on start up it comes on like after a turn ......
and we did cut the wires with the white block on which goes to the airbag thing and my E4 wheels were not straight

I am still of the opinion that the problem is unrelated.

If the AYC was down, the light would stay on all the time from start up and not turn off at all.

Does the light turn on when you go round a bend and then turn back off on the straights?

Have you drained and replenished the fluid?
