Hi there I own an evo 2 track car and im starting to get it ready to race and its developed a fault when boosting, so was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be etc.
The car starts up and ticks over fine, also it'll rev fine until you start to come onto boost and then it stops boosting and tries its best to rev but cant and pops and bangs while sounding like a vacuum cleaner!!
I changed plugs and leads, done a boost leak test both to no avail. The fuel regulator is my next thing to look at and go from there.
All ideas are more than welcomed.

Cheers guys but ive been having another looksee at her and it seems to be running lean, it does at the mo have an aftermarket (cheap ebay thing),on it and doesnt seem to be doing its job proper! Tried to raise fuel pressure but when it gets raised to were it should be in boost it just either blows the fuel lines off or leaks from them! So gonna fit a better quality reg along with fresh fuel hoses and couplings and see if that cures her and if not i'll at least be able to raise pressure and determine whether fuel pump needs replacing aswell. As I think its deffo a fuelling problem but I could easily be wrong!!

I will honestly say it sounds like a maf fault. The amount of times I have forgot to plug mine in and it does exactly that pops splutters doesn't boost properly, try another maf sensor. Doubt it's fuel cut, second guess would be coil packs or plugs

Cheers for that mate but think ive got it worked out, changed the pump today and its now running fine again! So next thing im gonna do is change all the fuel lines from front to back and fit a foam filled tank, swirl pot 3etc.
Anyone know were they do foam filled tanks for the evo?
Theres alot of rust inside my tank and its that bad its even discolouring the petrol! Think thats whats caused the puimp to fail.

I'd ditch the ebay fuel reg and refit the standard one, fuel pressure is not something you want to be mesing with (unless your tuning the car yourself)

get someone to check the fuelling with a wideband before you start thrashing it again as you may end up with a hefty bill if its running that lean.
