hey there, yes I live in the small tail of the country!!
my evo 4 is my first evo after having owned lots of 200sx's and v-tec Honda's

I would love some help with my evo, fixing odd problems and hopefully later tuning it! is there anyone near me who can help?
the closer to redruth the better!

as it stands I don't even know anyone in person who owns an evo!
and although im an okay amateur mechanic id love to find someone who really knows what they're doing and really knows evo's!

I can pay cash or beer for any help I get too!!
cheers
luke!

hey!

thanks wingnut!
good to hear from you!
tell me, being kind of near Plymouth have you taken your car to alan Jeffery yet? I hear he is supposed to be a fairly good mapper and I was thinking of taking my evo there for mapping in the near future!

my plan is to fit an evo 5 ecu, evo 9 injectors, walbro 255, 3 port boost solenoid and then have it all nicely mapped and hopefully running 1.3 bar boost!

I hope its fairly easy for a mapper to plug into a 5 ecu and then trim bits here and there, lean it out a bit, programme the boost etc....

Haven't used allen myself no, have heard good things about his work though and he supplied a turbo to a friend of mine for his evo 7!
Sounds like a good plan for your 4 in the future!
I would advice a walbro 255ltr or equivalent fuel pump as well! And 1.3bar is the limit i would run on the 4 if its still running the original engine!

yeah it'll get a walbro 255!
1.3 bar should be fine, the motor has acl big end bearings and evo 9 crank, rods and pistons plus its all balanced up and has the balancer shaft delete, oh and an 8 turbo too! :)

it has a full 3 in stainless jasma with de-cat,apexi induction and forge dump valve, im hoping with the other bits I want to buy and some good mapping and 1.3 bar hopefully I can have between 330 to 350bhp
ill have to see when I get there!
lots to buy and do first!!

Sounds like you have a good base and plan already in place! Just remember not to get over enthusiastic with chasing numbers, even with your upgraded internals the 4 block only has a half thrust bearing cap not a full 360 degree so can't take as much load! If u decide you want more power find a 5 onwards engine/block
Also power isn't everything, a well setup suspension and brakes can make the most of the power you are already running! Look forward to hearing about your progress! :)

thanks wingnut! ,yeah that half thrust washer thing is a bit depressing! im sure a new one is in there but still, its a bit sad!
I wonder if the acl big end bearings will help take some strain off the bottom end?
anyway there must be a few 4's about running over 300bhp without worry?!

its not so much chasing numbers its that ive had a fair few big power cars now, all rwd with big turbo's and silly boost and I hate to say but the evo as it is now cant help feeling slow!!!!!! but I know it has so much potential, plus the 4wd can make good use translating the power to the road!
I must say I have no reservations what so ever about the ride, steering and handling, its very similar in size to my 99 accord type R I had about 5 years ago and as good as that was it cant do hard cornering like the evo, it crashed over bumps and potholes whereas the Mitsubishi soaks them up and its steering was a bit on the light side whereas the evo steering has such a weighty firm positive feel and it all ads to the cars solid stuck to the road like glue experience,
all it needs to be perfect is some genuine oomph to really compliment the handling! :)

hey mr wingnut! just found out that with the rebuild a brand new thrust bearing cap was fitted, and the rebuild was only 700 odd miles ago, so with the a.c.l bearings and 9 crank, rods and pistons hopefully it'll hold together for a fair few miles, im now thinking maybe a should have it mapped to just 1 or maybe 1.1 bar to be on the safe side, seeing as it has an evo 8 turbo hopefully with a good map it should still be atleast 300+ bhp, what do you reckon? :D

Hi luke

Have heard about a bearing cap retro fit fix to inprove the 4 block crank walk issue, athough never actually seen one or heard if it works or not!
I would agree with your plan to limit you boost to a maximum of 1.1 bar!
I had a 4 running 1.1 and it made 290 hp at the flywheel which i was inpressed with for just a filter and exhaust on a 12 year old car at the time!
Your best bet if you really want more power is to save up and get a later engine! I've done lots of engine removals and refits aswell as rebuilding/forging my own car so if u need help or advice on any aspect just ask!

My build thread link below should give u an idea of wats involved! :)

I am from stithains, that makes 3 of us in cornwall. I meant to reply to your last thread regarding garages as your right no one seems to really have any knowledge of evos round here.
Maybe we should have a meet up, there are some great roads almost made for evos.
Anyway try Rk engineering in st.agnes they sorted out a botched clutch job on my 7
