Just got the EVO yesterday and the guy said the reason all 3 lights were lit is a short in the wiring. Is this true and is it an easy fix?

Cheers Ian.

Sorry to say but could end up being a very costly repair maybe new ayc, unlikely that it's faulty wiring

its not a100% diagnosis but in the passenger footwell remove the kick panel and the glovebox.

You should see 4 (if I can remember) ISO plugs, check these for any corrosion or green scum in the plugs...If you find this then it could be the reason why the lights are on, but "normally" the wipers play up too...but you never know worth a look !

Its a common problem on 7,8 & 9's water ingresses through the passenger arch and follows the loom down to the plugs.

If not then your best to get the fault codes read and see a specialist but it could be a number of things from very cheap fix (just a bleed of the AYC and Diff) to very expensive (new pump) but nowadays you can get them overhauled ...Heres hoping its a cheap one !

I got my 8 back in June and after driving a few hundred yards all 3 lights came on. If the engine was turned off and then back on only 1 light would show but again after a few hundred yards all 3 lights would come on again. After a trip to Mitsi garage it was diagnosed as the ECU for the AYC. It was replaced and fault codes cleared. Straight away the diagnostic showed up a fault with the AYC pump and the 3 lights were still coming on.

Pump was replaced aswell and all is well with the AYC. No more 3 lights coming on.
Luckily enough i bought my Evo from a big well known non Mitsubishi dealer and they came good for the new parts fitted (eventually). They sent the car to a Mitsi dealer to get fixed.

I found out the price for supply and fit the AYC pump and it was just shy of £3000!!!

what happens if you just leave it and keep driving it with the 3 lights on if the car feels like its driving ok?

Never used them myself but Greer Motorsport in Kilbirnie do a bit of work on EVO's.
Maybe they can help you?

Or there's StevoV down in Auchinleck

Neither are too far away.

Best and simplest thing to do would be to read the fault code :)

Diagnostic port is under the dash next to steering colum.

Loop a small bit of wire or paper clip into ports numbered 1& 4

Then turn on the ignition till the lights come on but without starting the car.

Count the flashes from the acd lights.
Long fash 10's quick flash units

Ie 3 long flashes and 5 quick flashes = 35

Then come back to us :)

Extreme motorsport is down your way as well as Performance HQ in Dalgety Bay, Edinburgh, both are evo specialists.
