Ah... FFS..!!!!

Hi All,

Took that car a out today as we got "sunshine" here.... :awesome:

Went for a blast upto Leicester.. Got there no probs and in good time :whistling:

Stopped in a garage to fill up as you do, just as i finished a guy on a motorbike was pointing at the back of my car??!!!
So i had a look and OMG petrol was pissing out like a river from somewhere under the car!! FFS... Looks like its coming from the tank somewhere.

Anyway after what seemed a life time of watching all that petrol piss down the drain, i had to get back home..

I took a very steady drive all the way home and thankfully didn't lose anymore Juice on the way home.....

I got about 2 miles from home and was at a roundabout, i pulled away as normal, 1st, 2nd, into 3rd, then heard a starnge" whining sound i think it came from the rear... (Not sure though) as it stopped pretty much straight after it started. into 4th then into 5th.....

Then noticed an instant loss in power and the AYC light came on on my dash aswell as the ABS logo?!!?
ARGHHHH FFS!!!!!

I know the possibilities could be endless, but any ideas???

... I've just read the section on "How To Fault Codes"......

How do i earth out the pin under the steering wheel??

Please bear in mind I'm not exactly mechanically or electrically minded...

I have just been out and checked the reservoir in the boot, looks brand new and there was signs of a "fairly recent" top up, residue around the seal at the top. Also wasn't exactly done up tight imo.

How can i check the level in the reservoir?

Think he means did the fuel stop flowing out from under the car when you stopped pumping the fuel...

He could be thinking along the lines of damage to the fuel filler neck due to corrosion, I believe its quite common in the V's, might also be in the VI's

I had finished filling it and was walking away. The petrol was still flowing out for about 1-2 mins after filling up so think it could be the tank and possibly the filler neck. Am having it looked at tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah think corrosion of the fuel filler neck is very common on all Evo's......and they're not cheap either. Around £150 rings a bell, plus fitting.

Yea filler neck is a common problem. Bought one for my VII off eBay for around £70 I think

Is there not also a washer on the drain plug which is known to corrode and need replacing, could be that?

But as to why you lost power and your ayc and abs lights came on, no idea, sorry mate

if you look under the car at the tank there should be 2 drain plugs on each side of the the tank just check that they are still there, plus its a simple fix if thats the problem

.... It was the filler pipe that caused the leak, it has corroded around the top of the neck and has also corroded at the bottom "just where it connects to the tank"....
Jamie, can you PM me details of the neck you have and how much you would be looking for it?

Also, im sure i have read somewhere on the forum of how to check the pump to see if its working properly, i cant remember where though?? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Quick Update....

Cars being looked at on Sat.. Been busy with work and other stuff going on....
1st chance i've had to get it sorted. Will hopefully know more by 6pm on Sat.

If your ABS light came on it will bring up the AYC light, the 2 systems are linked and the AYC can not work without the ABS, but the ABS can work without the AYC. To me looks like a problem with your ABS system which has brought on both lights.

Get it hooked up to an MUT diagnostics machine, or EvoScan or you can flash the codes out yourself. Use a paperclip in the OBD port to short out pins 1 & 4, then put the ignition to the on position and watch the lights on the dash, they will begin to flash.

Constant flashing means no stored codes, long flashes are 10's, and short flashes are 1's. If there is more than 1 error code there will be a pause between them.

For example, 5 long flashes and 6 short ones on the ABS light means ABS error code 56. Nice, simple and free way to pull the diagnostic codes.
