I have an evo 8 fq330 on a 53 reg. My first evo! I am looking to unleash somemore power. Can anyone here advise on where to start? If any of you offer a remapping service I would be most greatfull to hear from you with costs and advice for any other mods etc. Would like to achieve around 450 bhp or there abouts if possible? At present it has the hks hardpipe kit with filter and super dragger exhaust etc.

It will cost you a lot of money to get to 450hp as it means new turbo/cams/intercooler/ injectors ect.

The best thing to do with your car would be a 3 port boost solenoid/walbro fuel pump and a remap that should see you around 370-380hp on V power we do thi for £420 all in you will also need a decat pipe for this conversion. To get to 400hp would mean cams and a 10.5 turbo housing

Ok, cheers. Sounds like a good start! What would I be looking at for the cams and turbo housing on top of the £420, and is this the best way to start off? I think the car may have a decat pipe from memory but I'll check this out as I haven't had it long. If not, what would one cost? Also, where abouts are you based and how long would you need the car for?

The cost would vary on cam choice as some need uprated springs and retainers and if you want vernier pulleys or not i personally would not fit cams straight away as fitting them now will not give you scope for more mods later on when you get used to the power of stage 1 mods.

Decat pipes are around £60-70 we would need the car for around 3-4 hours and we are based in Co. Durham

You would need a good exhaust and decat also a boost controller either a manual dawes device or an electronic one such as an Apexi avcr/Greddy profec ect. also take off the savc as it will not be needed with a map the other thing you will need is a Walbro fuel pump just to be safe with the fueling

We could do a Walbro pump supplied and fitted and we take the tank out to fit them a dawes device and a remap for £450 all in

Put a thread up!!!

It makes it easier for others to search for when they have an issue or want to do the same thing:rolleyes:

By the way, it goes to the overflow bottle/expansion tank and not the washer fluid bottle;)

**REPOST in the correct thread I believe** ADMIN can delete the thread I made...

What's up guys,

Although I am still dreaming of the day I will hear my Evo start again I've been thinking of my next steps.

Engine management is critical to me. I live in a remote location from the rest of the Evo world so #1 any type of flash tuners are going to need to have a way for me to send them my logs to get a decent tune. #2 I would also like the ability to make adjustments, been tuning boosted EFI GM vehicles the past couple years. Tuned my supercharged Saturn Ion Redline to 340whp 280tq, very fun little machine. I feel confident saying I know the "basics" of Fuel, Air, Spark. Only programs I have actually had a look at for the 4G63 is DSM Link.

Knocking reading abilities is definitely a no-brainer, absolute must. Instead of writing a novel I'll keep it simple, which ECU/Tuner/Programmer will fit the needs of my Evo 4 best?

Launch Control
Switchable Anti Lag
Knock Monitoring ie via CEL and the programmer
Switchable Maps
Tweaking Abilities
Ties in external widebands pretty easy(Which widebands are preferred by most UK Tuning shops).

And lastly, I know that when you throw the Evo 6 ECU in the Evo 4 the pins are exactly identical; 21, 32, 33, 34, 40, 60, 74, 77, 79 I believe. I would like to retain vital factory readings like Exhaust Gas Temp, 02 Sensor, and all other engine "Saftey" parameters. As you may be able to tell I have blown a few engines in my "learning" process with HPTuners and its a terrible feeling I don't want to feel much more

Thanks for any input on the matter fellas!

Cheers

There are a few companies that offer email tuning (mellon in the states is quite a popular one) and I'm sure there are plenty of guys that can help you out (have a look over at geekmapped.com)

you will need either a 5/6/7 or 8 260 ecu

a op1.3 or op2 cable (depending on which ecu you go for)

innovate lc-1 is a popular choice for o2 (and works well with evoscan)

....good luck on your quest matey :)

Thanks for the input!

Good to know my needs can be met by a few companies. I also have had great results with the lc 1 so I'll probably go for that wideband again. Are all the ECUs to swap in the same? Ie. They all offer the same tuning capabilities? My first choice is to swap in the Evo 6 ECU but I don't want to miss out on anything by not going with the 7 or 8 260 ya know?

I'm thinking ahead also for when the time comes to replace the engine. Ideally I want to drop in a 8 engine. I'm assuming the 6 ECU wouldn't have trouble running it.

I'm pretty sure the 5/6 ecu has caught up with the later ecus regarding extras.

and yeah the 5/6 ecu will be fine for the later engines.
