advise needed on buying an Evo

Evening all!

Ive finaly decided to buy an Evo but ant got a clue about em tbh
Had 3 scoobys but fed up of engine problems that come with em!

looking to spend 8 - 10k, keep favouring the evo 7 over others but thought id ask you lot what to check for and whats bad for going on em

Hi and welcome to the Forum buddy!!!

If you have around the £10k to spend then you would be better off going for an Evo VI TME in my opinion.

It is the best and most value for money Evo on the market.

If you are set on a VII then by all means go for one of them, there are some nice examples out there for sure.

If the engine management/AYC/ACD lights are on then walk away unless the car is priced at a couple of thousand pounds lower then the average selling price. In which case it still may or may not be a bargain depending on the service history and general condition of the car.

Be sure to carry out a HPI inspection, make sure it is a Gold Standard check and not the text message or £9.99 ones as they do not cover you fully if the HPI company give you misleading/incorrect information.

Evo 6 tme is the one that i was gunna buy a few years ago but insurance was 4k for me then so i strayed towards a scooby which cost £1400 but ended up spending 7k in 18months on engine rebuilds so it would have been a better choice in the long run to get the evo 6 :-9
Oh well ya live n learn

Is it worth getting one of them AA inspections as theyre ment to cover you against certain things if owt goes wrong within 12 months

I work at a ford garage as a panel beater / painter so no stranger to car problems n faults but every breed of car comes with a different set of problems or things to look for when buying

I very much doubt that one of them will be along any time soon buddy. They are very rare!!!

Well worth the RAC/AA inspection, it also includes a comprehensive HPI check too.

I do not think anyone on here would want a Scooby, they have a failure engine which you found out about the hard way. One fast turn too many and the sump starves the engine of oil

I have built more Scooby engines then I care to remember!!!
