theres a lacquer which can stand high heat temp. not sure whats it called. will research for you. that will do just fine.
if too much is sprayed then it will get a reaction with the surface & paint.

using your nails is not the best of ways of taking the excess off. lol'

Anyone know if lacquer thinner will damage the carbon fiber

lacquer would not damage the carbon.
it can be re-lacquered on all plastic materials & metals.
its more pricey than a normal spary paint aswell.
its best to ask your local body shop & see what they say'

becarefull with thinners, after seeing the dubious quality laquer on this part, i wouldnt hold high hopes of the resin in the carbonfiber being of a high quality either

acetone should be safe for cleaning the surface

id recomend a 2 pack laqquer with UV protection

I have to agree with the RallySlag on this one. Try not to go too strong with the thinners. Which ever one you do go for, try it on an inconspicuous area and wait 24 hours to see the end result. It will save you from a potential heart attack buddy!!!

acetone is considered safe on composites, we use it to degrease and clean composite parts prior to structural bonding

i tryied some celly paint thinner once as it was all i had available, you could actually hear it reacting with the part crackling and fizzing, fortunatly yes i did test it on a bit of scap offcut first
