I have just fitted Kelford 272 cams and i presently have then set to 0 not clocked them in yet took the car for road test running hardly any boost and:

There is a lot of vibration felt through the peddles and its blowing the dipstick out of its hole and causing oil to spray up and i have changed cams on a lot of engines and never had this sort of thing befor any ideas as im stumped

Cheers

balance shaft definately timed up correctly? (it can be 360degrees out)

not sure whats causing it to now blow oil though:confused:

None of the pulleys moved though is that still likely ?

And the oil thing im baffled by it did not do it before the cams where fitted

i'd agree sounds like the oil shaft is out the only way to tell is to time it back up and put a screw driver through the bolt hole on the front etc,

THe dip stick is because your getting too much crank pressure, try pinching the end of the tube that some times helps are the o rings can wear.

Would cams cause it to suddenly get back pressure though as it never done that at all on standard cams

an easy check to do on the balance pulley is to put it at the 12oclock position and let go, if it falls anti-clockwise then it is correct.

going for the higher lift cam probably means that your managing to suck more air in giving a higher combustion pressure which in tern is giving the higher crank pressure, might be worth doing a compression test just to know what the values are

Tut, tut ....Told you not to fit those silly cams didn't I :whistling: ...Still on the upside I suppose you could always plumb a pipe in from the breather to one of my empty oil containers?? ... 50 miles should do it ...should have enough to give mine an oil change then :p

A quick question Marty, did you replace the springs and retainers also when fitting the cams? As the kelfords require uprated springs due to the high lift and duration, as your probs getting valve float now :(

When i looked into it i was advised standard springs and retainers would be fine

I agree with Andy about the springs and retainers. Yea the standard ones will work but you will find at some point youll be getting valve float :)

have you tried it since sorting the oil pump? just wondering in the out of phase of the pump could have given you higher pressure some how, do you have an oil pressure gauge?

hi when i got my e4 . the balance shaft was also out of sync " last owner and a mate with some rubber spanners did them self " :O) so at around 3000 rpm it felt like the engine was about to leave the car . but it also had the same throw the dip stick out problem . and i put it down to the vibration . same result just timed it up solved the problem :O) since then i modded the shaft and removed the weight's best mod so far :O)
