hi all, i have an evo 5 gsr. I put it back on the road this week and have a couple of niggles (hopefully are just nothing) hopefully you can help.

ok to start with, I know its been baking this week, but when I got back home today after a while in traffic I noticed a little pool of water under the drivers side of the front bumper, ive looked In the expansion tank and its dropped about 500ml and it seems the water is coming from the hose that comes off the filler cap, the hose that looks like an overflow and leads into the wing. is this normal?... can I stop it?? do I need to make the ratio of coolant/water higher or something??

ok second niggle, went to fill up at shell and all v power was out of order, out of desperation I put 20 quid of normal shell fuel in then at the Tesco garage near my work filled up with the momentum 99 to try and dilute it, but ive noticed that the idle is now a bit rough/lumpy. is that a normal thing to happen when normal fuel is in the mix? im thinking just drive it steady until the tanks gone then fill up with v power and see if the smoother idle returns...

lastly, after poking around the bonnet earlier ive noticed a wire with a fitting broken off... here is a pic if it works

you can see the wire near the filler cap, I have notice a similar wire on the other side of the rocker cover and it is actually bolted to it? any help or info with regards to this would be great.

that's it, thanks in advance !:D

Probably a little bit of paranoia on the lumpy idle side of things.

Not noticed anything like that plug on my 5 so hopefully someone may help.

Expansion tank is Normal, basically acts as an expansion tank if there's too much coolant in there. Don't worry just take the cap off for the radiator and top up if needed (when cold!!)

hi mate, thanks for the reply. yeah I think your right about being paranoid where the idles concerned. but this water boiling over is worrying me a little, just pulled up and seen it running out the bumper again through that overflow hose. and you can hear the water boiling/bubbling... is this normal on switchoff on hot days then as it only seems to do it when I kill the engine? the coolant gauge says just below half so it isn't indicationg things are getting too hot. ive bought some blue coolant to fill it up maybe the ratio is wrong what do you guys think. thanks

It would be fine with just water in it buddy, coolant is to stop it freezing in winter and anti rusting properties.

There will be too much water in the expansion tank where the pipe you talk of is.

Just leave it don't top that up and it will stop when it's got rid of what it doesn't need. Just make sure the radiator is full though. Maybe when it's cold start it up and take the rad cap off and to let any air out of the system.

Mine did the same when I got it and hasn't done it since (2 years)
