5speed vs 6speed gearbox

Hi guy's

I've done some searching but haven't really found much apart from a few people saying the 6sp is kinda weak....

My question is what's best for my driving style. I'm an aggressive driver very hard threw gears and I always love the mid to topend of the rev range where the power is at. So my foots always to the floor if I need to drop gears fast for over taking I will do.

so I want the one that might do the trick an not spit gears on me

I think it depends how much power your car has mate.

If you are running 400 bhp upwards best to get a 5 speed

My car has gone through three 6 speed gearboxes until a 5 speed was fitted.

So stick with what I've got then. I was looking to run a nice 400hp maybe a little more nothing better than power lol...

6 speed is fine for me. As long as you use the clutch proper and take care it will last, only difference from a 5 to 6 speed is to keep the box the same size 2 gears are half the thickness than the rest

Plus if you were to change you'd need the selector, the cables, cable mounting fork and gearbox mount.
Stick to what you got mate !

i run a e7 5sp box in my e4 . shorter 1st , longer 5th and 420bhp , so much better than the standard e4 box at motaway speeds ;0) imo

Think I'm gonna stick to a 5spd it wouldn't bother be having to change those bits as I want what's best for retaining power and not needing changed every 3k
But what's the difference between the gsr and rs box is it only the ratio or has the rs got stronger cogs??

Not to sure about strength but yes lower ratio so in 5th gear doing 70mph its reving at like 5000rpm lol

Sounds like the 5spd I had on my sti that was 70 @4.500rpm but pulls to 125mph....

More of a sprinting gearbox my style.. Will that work with ayc and a gsr rear diff or is that needing changed also..

My 6 speed is fine just over 400 in my 8MR with service every 4k with Motul oil

An RS box will work with Gsr Ayc rear did yes.

Ayc is only on the rear did unlike Evo 7 onwards
