hi guys. new to the site. i have just got my self a 1996 evo IV. i have had it two days. the heaters used to be redhot and then today driving home they were luke warm and when i turned it up to 32degress and turned em up full the temp gauge went down and then wen i turned em off it went back up. my fan kicks in but heaters blowing luke warm and now cold. i checked to see if the radiator had water in and it was full to the brim so i started it up hoping it would drop down but it didnt so squeezed the top pipe and water came out of the radiator. is there a blockage or air in the system and if so how do i bleed the system. dont know nothing about evo's. thanks very much

Check for leaks and coolant level first thing in the morning before ya start it up..

It's probably gonna be the thermostat thats packed up pal. It may be an air lock but i doubt it if it was blowing hot earlier. My monies on the thermostat.

thaanks for the reply

no theres no leaks. a freind of mine had a look last night and he said when i take radiator cap off and start car up the water should have gone down but it didnt it just stayed at the brim until he squeezed the water pipe thewn it came out. he said to undo the 13mm bolt at the end of the water pipe and wait for any water to come out of there and it will be bleed up. is this true? do you reckon the system might need burping?

many thanks adam

The water dont necessarily have to go down, it will only do that when ya rev the car hard and then it will come back up.

Try what your friend told ya then go for the thermostat. Ya only get a air lock when ya allow air to enter the system. It was blowing hot originally with no probs and the became cold out the blue which suggests thermostat to me pal.

i am getting a thermostat as tried everything else and dont seem to work. is there any special way to doing it or shall i just take top hose off take thermostat out and clean it up and put new thermostat in and seal it up. allow to dry and the refill with water with the heaters on full. is this correct? thanks adam

Thats right. Ya dont need to let it dry up though.

Make sure to top up with red antifreeze.

Blue is good but red offers better protection. If ya have blue then stick with it.
