Hi guys changing my oil due to losing most of it while changing my turbo :( so I rang my mapper to him what he used when he did a full service and he said 10w60 due to me getting near to 50k and soon to be running around the 400bhp mark so I have got some Mobil 1 Motorsport 10w60 cheap from a mate £35 for 5l but after reading a few threads on a few forums this may not seem the way to go any ideas ??

My cars done 67000 and running about the 350 mark and I use 5 30

Did your mapper say why he uses that oil

As FQ Craigus says 5 40, 10-60 won't be great just thicker and harder to get the heat out of. 50k is low mileage!!!

Search oilman he's the daddy with these q's (he's the opie oils guy)

I'm running 5-40 in my 100k+ V running 370bhp + :D

Just had a read through that I also read one on the mlr that is a lot longer with a lot more info it does seem 10w40 is the norm but on the mlr there are still people using 10w60 so I'm still confused lol

But in modern very high RPM engines with efficient high-delivery oil pumps thick oils waste power, and impede heat transfer in some situations.

That's all I had to read to realise I don't want a thick oil in my engine.

A 10 60 won't harm your engine, just a bit unnecessary.

If your mapper builds and works with high powered motors for track use only, then he'll suggest an oil to suit.
Yours is road use mainly and running far less power.
Go with 10-40

Am I really going to lose any power using thick oil I can't really see that myself

The engine has to work harder to push it round. And it won't reach optimum temperature for best results...

I feel a bit of a twat tho as my tuner has told me to put 10w60 in and I go and put 10w40 in so next time he gives it a service and drops the oil he's going to see how thin it is and no it's not 10w60 lol

He won't tell the grade from dumping it out the car, but like already said that is a thick oil to use, average oil 10 40 but like already said I use 5 30
