Quick EVO 4 question

Hi guys.

Just changed my engine oil no problems however since changing the oil the engine sounds a little 'tappety' from cold (this soon disappears when warmed up). I used 15w50 castrol motorsport fully syth which im beginning to think is on the heavy side.

Also why we're on the subject, how easy is it to change the diff, transfer box, gearbox and AYC fluids just out of interest? I like to think im fairly competent as ive always done most of the work on my previous cars. Im having trouble trying to find some online workshop manuals. My freind has told me that MLR have some online 'do it yourself' manuals however im tight and would rather spend the £35 - £40 sign up fee in the petrol station or down the pub!

Any help would be much appreciated

yes on the thick side only for cold starting.
i would go for a 10w/40 or 60 fully synthetic.

mind you at the moment in my 4 im using 15w/60 myself!
this is for long hard journeys where speed is no limit!
as the weathers getting cooler will be changing to the latter.

the trans fluids are easy to change. the ayc might be a bit tricky & messy.

i went into mitshubushi the other day to get a oil and filter they never had oil only in bulk and they told me to get 5w 30 fully synthetic. that seems to be ok. also i found on ebay a workshop manual its on disc think it was a 10er and it does from the evo 1-9 so really handy and its got everything on it.

Silkolene 5W 40 fully synthetic is what i use in mine and all my customers cars.. its rated to 130 degrees and works very well.

In awnser to your changing fluids Question.... the diff, transfer box and gearbox oils are easy to do but i would leave the AYC fluid change to someone who can bleed t properly as if you dont get all the air out you can knacker your Diff, (transferbox on later models) and AYC pump..

Thanks for the help guys. Mr Lancer/John: ive heard from a few a few people who have all said leave the AYC fluid to someone who does it for a living, just thought i'd clarify it on the forum. Rossi: Just looking on ebay for the workshop manual. John: due for an engine oil change so im going to give the silkolene a bash.

leave the AYC to a professional, it will save you headache in the long run.

If you do attempt it on your own then give us a shout and I will gladly guide you through it.
