Newby, just joined up. seriously looking to acquire either an Evo4 or 5 in the near future, what do i need to look out for? And also if already tweeked as most appear to be, what are the bad tweeks to avoid? I work as a mechanic so dont mind technical jargon!! lol.

make sure the ayc is working correctly if its a gsr you are going for ,make sure the light comes on then goes off a few seconds after starting.

there is lots of answers to your questions just have a look around and every one has there fav evo when it comes to the 4 or 5 .

mine has to be the 4 but im bias as i have one but the 4 has some limits that the 5 over comes with ease from the factory so the smart money usualy starts there .

welcome to the E wing where we are all a bit loopy.

if modded just find out who done it and if its done by the owner ask some questions to gauge whethere he/she knows what they are talking about and that shgould give you an indication as to if its good or not. cant beat a good old test drive though.

apart from the obvious thrash you will have on the td also take it slow over some bumps and round in circles both directions and listen and feel for abnormalities, diffs are hard to spot on a thrash and can be over looked but expensive

make sure you check the rear chasis rails and general body work as they can be bad for rust and rot!

Ayc can be a problem and the engines aint the best in the 4 compared to the 5
