Hi All,

I have a couple of questions i hope you can help me with.

1, When i picked up my Evo the Boost and Pressure Gauges were unplugged?? Will it effect anything if i plug these back in? Can you think of any reason why these would be unplugged.....?

2, Im in Northants and looking at getting the car onto a rolling road and have set up and BHP checked! Can anyone recommend a good tuner in my area that can do this for me??

Thanks

Steve

boost gauge unplugged is fine as long as the feed has been blocked

what other pressure gauges are you talking about? .......again probably ok if the feed is blocked.

i'd be worried why they have been removed, could be hiding something., or just simply 'unplugged' due to work carried out

An unpluggled Boost gauge could mean, spikes in the boost, worn turbo, over boosting. so taking it out could potentially hide these problems.

Pressure gauge, if thats an oil one an is unplugged, well i dont need to tell you what problems that can hide.

But then they might not be hiding problems, they might never of been 'fiited' as they could of been for 'show' Many people buy gauges and not have them working as they just want something else to look at, without the hassle of wiring them up.

only whay to see if theres any problems is to replug them up. i'm just confused why someone would pull them out, and keep the gauges in the car doing nothing.

It is not something to be worried about, here is a simple scenario for you:

The boost gauge was connected originally and was t'd off from a boost controller that was removed before sale.

As for the oil pressure gauge, it may have been bought and the previous owner did not have a sandwich plate or the know how of how to connect it correctly.

If your oil pressure is low then you will no doubt hear a knocking sound from the bottom or the top end as soon as you start the car up.

I suggest that you take it to a good tuner or reputable Evo specialist close to you as soon as possible to get them connected.

What Mark has suggested is plausible too, many people just buy the gauges and when they are faced with fitting them, they just do the cosmetics and leave the tech stuff for a later date which never arrives.

Have you contacted the previous owner to ascertain why they are not connected???

Why did you not check them when you took the car for a test drive???

Hi,

Thanks for all of this its very helpful. The dealer is contacting me on Monday to arrange collecting the car and putting things right with it. "it idle's at around 900 rpm then after driving when stopped at traffic lights etc sometimes idles upto about 1400rpm". I believe after reading other posts that this may be a vacuum pipe leak or that the dump valve is knackered.

The dealer took the car as a trade in so doesn't know why the gauges were disconnected. I just assumed that was ok and continued with the test drive.

I'll let you know how i get on....

Right.......My car is now going to a company in Roade, Northants called... Track Tek. they will be doing a full diagnostic on the car and will let me know what is what...
Unfortunately this will come out of "My Pocket" but i will be able to claim it back once they have diagnosed any problems with the car and when the "dealer" has had a 2nd opinion:confused:.... I'll hopefully be re-imbursed for my trouble!!!!!!!!!!!

Will let you know how i get on!?

what was the problem that they are fixing with new coil packs?

......surely not the high idle?

Come again:confused:

I did not read the thread from the beginning again to bring myself up to scratch but if that is the case then it is a simple issue of OBD diagnostics not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Has the Garage eliminated the idle control valve etc. and carried out a voltage test on the coil pack or have they just gone with what the EOBD is telling them and decided to replace the pack???

Sponners is right in thinking that this will hardly be the outcome.

Have a word with the garage and ascertain exactly what diagnostics were carried out. I suspect that the Dealership you purchased the car from will want the same information too buddy.
