absolutly invisible rattle noise from 4K rpm

yes they can be 180* out,
cant remember which way it is but when there upright if they fall one way there right and other there wrong... if you do a search you will find loads of info,,
but to be honest would of thought it would be more of a vibration.....

Yes I suppose it could be possible the balance shafts are out of sync. It's a bit o a bitch to line the whole lot up. That's why I didn't mind doing my own as balance shafts have been removed

it definatly worth a try then i spose! is it likely to be expensive to have the balancer shaft timing checked at mitsi?? think ill give them a ring in a bit and see what they say.

Think they give 5hrs to do a change and as they will still have to get right in there to get to the belt then will probably take 3-4 hrs to check the belts.
However my mate took his Evo in to a dealer to have some suspension work done and they advised the balance shafts were out of sync so they must be able to tell of its right or not without even stripping it down.

rotate the oil pump pulley until the marker is pointing straight up and let go. if it falls left/ anti clock wise towards the timming mark then it is aligned correctly

if it fall clock wise / away from the timming mark then ratate the pulley 1 full turn and try again .

Its easy to hear it all you need to do is drive it as the engine becomes very coarse.

ah sounds quite easy to check, aslong as you can get your hands in there! its booked in at mitsi tomoz anyways so hopefully they'll sort it for me, ive listened to videos that show out of sync balance shafts and the noise is very very similar! im really hoping this is it!

£315 later annndddddd................. the rattle is still there as large as ever lol

the cars been in the garage all day today! they said when the cam belt had been changed the tensioner hadnt had the pin put through it and the bearing had been changed but not reset correctly, so when the belt was put back on the timing was out and the belt was looser, they said i was very lucky it didnt jump and smash the valves in!

so they re-timed everything and put it back together, i went up to get it thinking it was all ok and got it back home, but no.... its still the same, its gotta go back in on monday!

im thinking something may have slipped or somet because they said they road tested it and the sound had gone away completely, and i trust them because they are a good bunch of guys.

really hope it gets sorted on monday and i dont get charged more!
