Evo VI - Useable daily driver??

Hello all

Thinking of getting shot of my 07 Civic Type R to get a reasonably low miles Evo VI. Always fancied an Evo and love the look of the VI. Looked at a few and think I know what to look out for. (Advice?)

Obviously realise the fuel, tyre and service implications and hopefully and purchase will be relatively standard with a new clutch already in place.

Do about 11k a year.

Anyone use theirs as a daily driver? Advice for or against?

Cheers for the reply. Used to limited mpg due to "spirited" driving in the Civic. To be honest fuel economy doesn;t concern me too much....

Just general running costs are at the back of my mind

well when you do get an evo m8, use it, love it and most of all ENJOY IT! thats what its for! makes getting up for work easier in the mornings knowing im going to be driving in using me evo

Hi Colin and welcome to our little Forum buddy!!!

Expect to spend a minimum of a couple of grand a year which excludes insurance, road tax and fuel.

If you can live with that then go for it buddy!!!

always used my evos as daily drivers no problem so go for it you could always change back but don't think you will

hi mate welcome i got a 4 and use it every day and touch wood no problems ,once you drive one you will know it make sence and if you do get a prob we have el he is the man to help out!!!!

hi and welcome 2 the site i use my 4 as a daily runner at the mow untill its sold i get 35miles on a tenner which ay bad at all that is every 2 days

Not afraid to get my hands dirty if some things need done. Had a few performance cars in the past (Nothing as powerful as an Evo though!)

A couple of grand exluding fuel tax etc does sound a little scary!! The 4.5k services would be done by me to be honest with the majors being carried out by a specialist (Anyone know any in Scotland??)

Spoken to a few Evo owners on the Type R forum and they have pretty much said the above as well as GO for it!!

My Civic has had so many problems fixed under warranty.....I appreciate that cash will need spent keeping an Evo on the road but rumours of 1k for a clutch excluding fitting have made me think a little.

Every time I see a pic of a VI in makes me want to go to the bank though

The thing with rumours is that they are spread by those who do not know what they are talking about. A 1k clutch is specialist after market which will be best if utilised on drag strips etc. or if you have a right beast on your hands. A decent performance clutch will set you back a minimum of £350. Nowhere near what you have been told

Hope I'm not sounding too negative!!

Generally had a bit o luck with the cars with the exception of the Civic. Always try and maintain them well etc.

Had a mk2 Golf GTI along with the Civic to do a spot of modifying to but sold it due to neighbours complaining about 3 cars outside! Fany a but of a daily driver for reasonable cash that I can drive, subtle modify (improve ) and get real enjoyment out of driving it!

I Have an Evo4 RS, probably the least likley of the lot to be used as a daily drive due to the short ratio box

However i love it, and i never want to drive anything else lol
i do have a mondeo as a backup car but iv only used it once since i got the evo, and that was when my aircon pump sheared off, but even that repair only cost me £60 to get the aircon degassed, pump removed and non aircon belt fitted

Decided to defo go for an Evo VI

Need to keep a hold of my Type R until early August as I have loads of travelling on heading up through the Highlands on 4 different trips.

On the look out for a satellite silver VI preferably unmodified, lower miles and with a good history (don't ask for much eh!)

Found one on autotrader, two on pistonheads and one on ebay, hopefully some of them are there in a few weeks.

Just two days ago i bought an evo 8 gsr tuned to 377bhp. Runs so sweetly, i hope to God i never have any major problems with it!

The only thing nagging me is the steering is slightly moving to the left at slow speeds. To be honest i havent checked the tyre pressures yet but visually they seem ok. Can anyone tell me if I need to get my geometry done or something else?

I dont know if you've heard of WIM (Wheels in Motion) in Chesham but they can do a full geometry setup on the car. Obviously more expensive. Should i not bother and just hit kwik fit or a local garage and get the tracking checked?
