Evo4 with evo8 engine has very strange engine work

i've bought evo4 that i was talking here about.

ayc lamp is on. found one from evo6 in my country for 240gbp with ayc ecu. but pump is outside the ayc?

on Monday will show car to guys that do evos repairs.

engine run's fantastic except that problem on the idle. some people said that it could be due to hks camshafts that i was told are there.

I think it is the same unit. I could be wrong, but that is how I understand it.

Robotech, after looking under my car and at various thread about the AYC, I think I was incorrect :whistling:

The pump does seem to be separate from the AYC at the diff. From what I could see on my car (Evo V) the pump is at the back of the car on the drivers side (RHD) behind the fuel filler pipe. It should be protected by a box. Hope this helps and sorry for any confusion.

i've found ayc from evo6 in my country (that's really a lot of luck as 4-6 in my country are extremely rare cars),but if it's the pump that brings ayc lamp to be on than i don't need the dif, right?

From what I understand, you could use a AYC pump from a 6 without any problems, I don't think there would be any need to change anything else.

Traders on another forum offer to recondition AYC pumps, there is no mention of changing anything else.


I don't know anything about servicing AYC's, but I think it would be a case of changing the pump out, then carrying out an AYC service as usual.

The diff shouldn't need to be changed.

yes, i've seen their ads, but the problem is that i'm not in UK.
it's possible that guys that will check the car could do my ayc's pump repair if it's pump that is broken

no, i've bought car (seller btw is also on this forum).

he said that engine was put from evo8. with hks camshafts and some non-standard crankshaft. on the bonnet bottom side their is clearly seen that previous engine was blown so it looks real that engine was changed.

car runs great. all except idle. acceleration is great, but when i stop - idle rpms are higher than standard - even up to 2k then they come down. with rpms when you go fast i've read that there is some find of evo engine's feature, is that right?

Pump will work from a 6 gsr but i believe the tm pumps are different? It is very unlikely that there is a problem with the diff it it is not noisy. Most likely to need just the pump.

Ayc fluid tank is in the boot. On the right hand side there is a small cover that pulls out from the side trim, reservoir is behind that. You will need to read the fault codes from the ayc. There is guides on here but basically bridge pin 1 and 4 on the eobd socket, turn on ignition, watch ayc light flash, long flashes are tens, short are ones, eg 8 long flashes followed by 2 short is fault code 82. Get fault code and do a search or post up to find out the problem

Yes. A faulty pressure switch could cause the AYC light to come on. You can buy adjustable switches for it, however, You would still need to test the pump though to see if it is generating enough pressure. If it is, then possibly the switch, if it isn't, then it will be the pump.

If you do test it and it is the switch that is faulty, you would need one from a Evo 4,5 or 6 as the later 7,8 and 9 use a sensor.

So finally got my car working. Strange engine work was caused by hks cams. now rebuilt from rhd to lhd was done with fixing bad points of the car that were caused by unprofessional evo8 engine swap.
