Well, it is about time I posted on here to let you guys know what I have and whats going on. So, here it is, my little Evo 1.

Running a conservative 400BHP at present, but with scope for much more when I turn the power up.

Only one more track day this year then the car will be laid up for winter. Over the cold months she is getting treated to a wide body conversion, aero kit with a view to flat floor and underbody work, wide wheels (205 is not enough for serious track work with this kind of power),and some decent wing work on the rear end to keep the back close to the floor through folly at Castle Combe.

Will also be treated to fuel swirl pot (fuel starvation out of left handers when below 1/4 tank!),external 044 inline (255 in tank as lifter) and some 1000cc inj. Should allow me to get over 450BHP reliably (the current injectors are close to their max duty cycle, so rather safe than sorry).

Anyhow, thats the beast, will update the thread once the work starts in earnest (Monday ironically, will be upgrading from Hi-Spec Monster 4 pots to K-Sport 8 pots!).

Watch this space,

Will be there on Saturday Lee, but not on track. Won't have the brakes fitted in time. Next outting will be PCAD at Combe on the 10th - sessions booked for the morning only though, then a track day on Combe on 20th Sept.

Have we sorted a meeting point out for Saturday yet? Coming with youngen to have a mouch around for a couple of hours, so would be good to finally meet you guys rather than just look at your parked and locked cars!

Right, as promised, the update on the brakes.

Firstly I guess the rumour about Launch Motorsport may be true. I had the car booked in there today to get the brakes fitted, turned up first thing this morning to find the place deserted. No computers, no one has collected the mail etc. I am sure the truth will out in time.

So, on the phone to a friend in Bristol who runs a Saab garage in Keynsham, and for the price of a Boneless Delux Box meal from KFC and the plan was back on.

Swapped out the Hi-Spec 4 pot monsters with EBC Bluestuff NDX for a set of the K-Sport 8 pots bought from Tuna Motorsport, with Carbotech XP10's from Ian at Carbotech. The difference was instant, night and day so to speak. I have not bedded them in yet (i.e. heat cycled them) as the advice is to do 50miles to just remove the transport oil and film from pads and discs, but instantly you can tell the brakes are there. Much more bite from cold, very positive pedal, its going to take a little time to get used to heel and toeing again as the bite is unreal.

Also took the opportunity to drop the oil (only 3 tracks days old and it was black as can be, not sure what it was but it was new in the car when I bought it 800miles ago!),so fresh filter and a liberal application of Millers CFS 10W60 and the engine has quietened down a treat now.

Changed the plugs to NGK Iridiums and regapped to 0.6mm as I was getting misfire issues on track when hot, and this seems to be the consensus as to cure the problem. PCAD will tell me whether that one has worked.

Rotated the tyres diagonally to try and get more even wear (3 track days has marked up the front nearside quite nicely so this is now rear offside etc).

Check the bushes and suspension for play and wear and everything is ship shape, so just the bedding in procedure to do on the brakes now and we should be all systems go for PCAD on the 10th. Can't wait.

Will get some photo's of the brakes up tomorrow weather permitting.........

They were still trading last week G, Thomas was twirling the spanners.

I don't know the guys at FCM yet, still too new to the Evo world, and I doubt they would look to kindly on a stranger turning up asking to use their ramps for free (or maybe I am doing them a disservice)? Will be giving them a shout when I need the suspension set up though.

Ah I to have XP10's with xp8's in the rear and the bite and stoping power is as you say night and day. I used to run performance friction before in my old Evo and I melted them on track so went for the carbotec pads and never looked back since :)

Always good when you can borrow a ramp, I have one I can use from time to time :)

Yes Fcm have a top notch wheel alignment machine, can recommend them to do that for you :)

Ok, pics of the brakes on the car:-

So, as you can see, tight. About 3mm of clearance on the Compomotive MO's, 17 x 7.5".

Just gone out and bedded them in on my own private road. Do they stop? Hell yes. Had to tighten the harness to stay in one place! They will happily lock the front wheels at three figure speeds, so can't argue with that. Might have to consider going a little "bigger" on the rims though with the wide arch kit. Will be adding some brake cooling ducts at the time so might get away with staying on 17's.

More to come (but not for a month or so).
