Diff bolts

Well lads, think ive the dreaded diff bolt problem, ive a clunking that you can feel through the steering at about half lock to the right? if it is the diff bolts how urgent is the problem?

Not sure on how urgent but if its just the bolts sort it soon before the diff goes as that's a lot more expensive I would say

I was thinking the same myself, loose bolts cant be a good thing in the heart of a transfer box :/

Just make sure it's not your front top mounts.

My 5 had typical diff bolt noise
Turned out to be shocker tops.

The only way I cured mine was to fit new ones mate. You couldn't even tell the mounts were worn when looking.


Diff bolts ain't that difficult to do if it is. Done mine twice on my drive.

Where do ya get the stronger diff bolts if its them gone? im guessing thread lock would be a good idea to yes?

As said could well be the diff bolts. They could have come loose like mine did or snap off but it's hard to tell and could be costly to buy other parts which may or may not cure the problem.

Now for the sake of £12 if your handy with the spanners then the best way is just to get on in there and open up the transfer box and take a look. :)

Give antony@indigo-gt a pm. He is on here and can supply you the bolts and yes clean the oil out the threads and use some good thread lock :)

Thanks dude :D ill pm him now, its annoying me and i dont want to ruin another part for the sake of 4 small bolts :/

Pretty easy if your handy with spanners.

Thanks mate :) had a toyota levin, changed gearboxs, complete engines, heads and then i ended up breaking t for parts so im handyish with spanners, biggest pile of dung ive ever had!! ha
